Anybody see this bike building show on Discovery Channel called Southern Steel? Filmed in Lynchburg (I guess) and is a bunch of good 'ol boys making motorcycles in a big pole barn somewhere. Freakin' hilarious.
A couple of weeks/episodes ago they had the "tech school" kids from EC Glass on- showing them the business. Supposedly the owner is an alum or something.
Just found it interesting.

Yep, it's kind of weird watching the show and seeing Lynchburg on TV. I was actually in Biscuitville on a snow day last month and the two of the three guys on the show cut me in line. Sometimes you'll see them riding around on their bikes.
There's actually a new biker hangout in Lynchburg called Rubs (right across from Crown Sterling), and every Friday (or Saturday) night is Southern Steel night. All the bikers get together, along with the Milwaukee Iron guys, and watch the show.

Milwaukee Iron is actually a little more than a "pole barn". Their facility is part of the Lynchpin Industrial Park on 220 near Sheetz, close to the Bedford County line. The park is home to some of the more high-profile businesses in Lynchburg, and is pretty impressive. Originally, Discovery had tapped the guys from Milwaukee Iron for the "American Chopper" series, but an illness in the owner's family made him back out at the last minute, which left Discovery scrambling. (Boy, I bet they're glad that happened now!) After a couple of years, they came back, started filming and re-aired the pilot episode as "Southern Chopper". All of the episodes after that have been "Southern Steel". Milwaukee Iron is quite famous among custom builders (notice their banners hanging in the shop at OCC and some of the Biker Build-Off shows) for their parts, and especially a particular design of triple-trees that became the standard for most manufacturers, including Harley-Davidson. Their entry into the custom bike world isn't completely new, but it's a new part of their business for sure. Having said all that, I find almost all of the Discovery bike shows more interesting and more fun to watch than Southern Steel, but I haven't missed an episode simply because it's fun to see Lynchburg on TV.

they definitely have a more laid back style than OCC and the older guy slays me. The whole attitude reminds me of my time down there trying to figure you southerners out (no where to go and all day to get there. ) NOTHING like the East coast!
