Started this thread with the idea that if someone has a technical question on the workings of this board, you can post in here and SLY or MARK can help ya out. We'll see how it works?

Copying this post from another thread as an example: A very nice feature you guys may or may not have noticed is the ability to be notified when annoying people like ME send you PMs. By selecting "preferences" in you "Messages" toolbar, you can have a dialog box pop-up or an email sent when someone, again- usually ME- sends you a PM. I'm sure you'll all sleep better at night now, knowing this. Glad I could help.

Speaking of issues: anyone know why it is that I'm CONSTANTLY adjusting my time settings. Had it set to GMT-5, now all of the sudden I'm 2 hrs behind.
And yes, thats more than usual!

The time isssue is a Proboards bug. It seeems whenever they reset their servers we lose our personal time settings.

from the Proboards tech board: this may work for guests who have AOL and are not able to get log-on info via email. I have no idea if it actually works.

With all due respect to Scar, anyone still using AOL as anything other than a portal needs to get a new ISP.
I'll admit that they do have nice content.

talking to myself again, I'm sure- but:
anyone know why the topics keep resetting all threads to "new"?
every couple days I have to go in and click "mark all as read"- maybe something to do with cookies/my browser.
great, now I'm hungry.

Cookies sound good. I have some in the pantry right now. I'm not hungry though.
And yes, I think AOL is a sin.

For those of us not too technically inclined, how to you fix the time? I noticed on my posts that the time is an hour off.

I can handle that one, Dale.
Up at the top of the screen there is a tool bar just below where it tells you if you have messages.
Click on 'profile'.
Then select 'Modify Profile'.
Then scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will see an option to change your time zone. Find the one that works for you and then click 'Submit'.

noticed that I adjusted for DST changing to EST, then Proboards changed and I was off again- so I adjusted to GMT-4 hrs rather than -5.
that may help too.

The board is set up in England. I believe. They don't use Daylight Savings time so they don't react to our time changes over here.

Question for CHRIS LANG:
why do the links to the AP stories on the fishwrap website come up like this?
