Alright guys - I was in the Burg this past week and I picked up the latest Flames Club membership flyer. We have no excuse anymore. You can join the Flames Club for $25. Your $25 will get you a membership card, name in program, car decal, lapel pin, subcription to the "Flame Thrower", and invitations to road trips and pre game events. Not a bad deal.
The next level is $100 and this adds priority seating to the mix. The next level is $250 this gets you the media guides and for $500 you get everything above and a Flames Club golf shirt. The levels then go to $1000, $2500, $5,000 and $10,000. I'm calling today to see if they accept quarterly donations that way I can spread my donation over the course of the year, give more, and not take the hit upfront.
The point of this post is - we have a chance to step up. For $25 you can join the Flames Club. Let's get the membership numbers up so the Athleteic Department can point to something quanitative when discussing fan support with potential conference suitors.

OK Guys - I'm official now. The Flames Club will accept quarterly, monthly, or payment all at once. I'm in. To coin a phrase from Bluto Blutarsky "Who's with me? Let's GO AAHHHH". You Animal House fans will know what I am talking about. Seriously, FOC needs us. New press box needs us.

Animal House is older than most of our posters on this board, H-burg. They know John Belushi's as Jim's older brother. Sad.
OK, you may be guilting me into opening my wallet. Anyone have a crowbar?

Come on Sly - $25 spread quarterly is $6.25. You guys spend that in one dog bone for Benji down at the station right? :>)
FYI - I told my wife that it was part of my tithe and she had no problem with it.

FYI smooth - they are talking about setting up Flames Club chapters in the near future. that may be an opportunity for you in Raleigh. I told them I would be highly interested in doing one here in Central PA.

If they ever talked of a Texas chapter, that would be further incentive for me.
You guys are really putting the squeeze on me.

As we should - you are the closest thing to a movie star on this board! Maybe you can get some of your high rolling celebrity friends in Houston to pony up some bucks too.
Seriously, I think we should all consider giving a little. even if it's just $25 bucks. I told my wife I was going to join at the Red level so I could get the Flames Club golf shirt, media guide and the other benifits. I told her "that's just the way it is". She said "OK". Then I got off my knees and thanked her!

seriously, as much money as i have spent being a season ticket holder at UVA and other pro sports teams, i decided a few years ago to join the club and give back to liberty because they gave me quite a bit. or for anyone else who spends money on going to pro or college events non liberty we should pony up and help out our alma mater. every penny helps! clemson' club is called IPTAY...i pay ten a year, and look what that program has accomplished...they have some good facilities. despite any benefits anyone would receive from joining, membership would certainly help all our programs in being a top notch 1-A school.

I am with you smooth. I look at the money I have spent going to Tech games, paying for hotels, gas, tickets, etc. - and I didn't even go to VT. My wife and I agreed that this year we would give to LU. Like you said - it's our school - one day we could be DI fighting for bowl games and tickets to games in Lynchburg. I figured it was about time I do my part.
I like the fact LU has reduced the minimum contribution to $25. Hopefully, that will drive membership and as people can afford to go up a level they will.
Do you even visit thesabre.com? You wouldn't happen to be Liberty U Hoo over there would you? If so, I sent you a message months ago referring you to this board. I am VT-ACC on techsideline.com. But the guys over there have gottne so obnoxious that I spend most of my time here as HarrisburgFlame.

As a member of the media, I never pay for tickets. So if I don't get them for free, I generally don't go at all. Yeah, I'm the cheapest man on the planet.
But your points are well stated. If the boss gives me the green light, I am in.

I hate to be negative but I have been a member of the Flames Club since it's inception. I started at the $1000.00 level and only last year went to the $500.00 level because of job problems. A couple of things: 1. I have never received all of the benefits ie. golf shirts, flags, etc. that are supposed to come with the package. 2. Last year I had to call 3 times to get them to send me a sign up sheet. This year I still haven't received one and I am not going to beg them to take my money this time. I am not trying to discourage anyone from giving. I am just hoping that the message will get around that they need to do a better job of keeping up with and taking care of the people who sacrificially give to the program. I am probably the oldest alum here (72-76) and love the school and the program, but I hope the new regime can help out with some of these issues.

I understand. I started this year at $500 and promised to give $1000 in 2006. I am such a pain in the rear that if I don't get the stuff I am supposed to I'l end up calling daily and driving everyone nuts. The number on the website is not correct for contacting the Flames Club. The ticket office signed me on. I think the small things like this need to be called to Dr. Park's attention. I am sure no one left you out deliberately - at least I hope not. But the ADept as a whole needs to be streamlined in terms of communication. Heather was great getting me signed up and said I would get some of my goodies now and some later.
I think our ADept would be well served by developing a CRM system to manage these types of issues and manage our growing fan base. I also think the school needs to take over maintenance of the athletics web site. The updates on the site are few, the contact numbers are wrong, the Flames Club benefits chart is not the current one, etc. Dr. Park is new to his position - I'm sure he'd be open to hearing suggestions.

doesn't hurt to harass Proto as well, I'm sure his gang is responsible for at least SOME of that stuff or content.
Let me edit to say "harass" in a nice, polite, though COMPLETE PAIN IN THE REAR TIL YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT way.

Wow, flameshaw! You truly are old school! But in the best way possible.
I have a feeling that many of the problems being brought up here are part of the reason there have been some changes in the department. You have to not only maintain but also massage your revenue streams if you want them to increase.
As for Dr. Park, I can tell you he has been very receptive by e-mail and is anxious to hear suggestions from alumni.

Ding Ding Ding. Winner. The small details. The new Flames Club brochure is very well done. The increased benefits are a great thing. I hope (and expect that this will be the case) that they come through with what was promised. Again, I am almost sure flameshaw's issues were an error of omission not decipt. That said, it still doesn't look that great. they have to put systems and processes in place to manage these types of things. It's hard enough to get people to cough up $$$, even tougher to get them back if you make them angry.
Dr. Park is big on raising funds. I'm sure he'll be on top of everything.

HF, i like that we are agreeing more on things! i would be stoked to lead a flames club chapter in the triangle! it would be a blast. i have faith in dr. park that the details will be taken care of and the flames club will take off! it stinks what flameshaw has gone through and hopefully dr. park will address all these concerns. BTW Hf, im carolina hoo on thesabre.com. i never go to other schools messageboards too much junk and obnoxious people....not saying that all VT fans are

I hear you man, isn't it nice to get along? techsideline.com is no fun anymore. I'm a Tech fan and those guys get on my nerves! I am much happier here. I think the Flames Club will be looking for people to step up sometime next year. I am going to throw my name into the hat early - I hope you do too. Basically, they will be looking for directors to lead a certain region. I really want to be involved.
I think Dr. Park will correct some of these things. I like Kim Graham but some of this stuff is way too slack (re: web marketing, fund raising, ADept image, etc.) and it went down on his watch.

A step in the right direction would be to make this the official fan message board and pay all of us consultant fees. I'll enter into a contract for say, 250K /yr for the next 5 yrs, and I need box seats to all the major sporting events, car service to and from the 'burg, and seating at the head table for the annual Sports Board Dinner.

Hey- just thought about this guy: Bob Good. With all the comings and goings, or goings and soon-to-be comings- does anyone know if he is still around?
seemed like a great young guy- very personable.

thanks SCAR. tell Bob the short dude that was grilling him about Rock Royer up at the Flames Club tent (before the homecoming football game) says hey.
I would be ASTOUNDED if he can't recall me. we spent 3 1/2 minutes together.
