First off Liberty should shedule Virginia tech to be the best you have to play the best...what is playing UCONN gonna do...well they did beat us 59 but lets go ahead and start the season off right and schedule Tech..Maybe they could keep from hitting 100!! But Jerrys not gonna let him do it within the next 10 years im sure that would be an ultimate embarresment

Alright you really need to change the title to this thread... cause Rocco didn't schedule Va Tech & UVA.

FIRST, LU needs to schedule teams that they can compete with. Sure, the I-A schools bring in a nice payday, and one or two a year is a good thing. One thing you CAN say about Karcher is that he greatly improved the schedule. Right now, ACC schools gain NOTHING by playing a team like LU.

Dude, Uconn's got a pretty nice team going. It's on par with or above MAC type teams already and is going up. There's so many wrong things in your post and you really only wrote 2 or 3 sentences. Since when have UVA or VT ever been the best? Anyway while I agree that those 2 teams would help us with local community involvment, I think it's a little more difficult than Rocco going up there and telling them that they're on our schedule. I'm sure Jerry would be all for it. Who cares if we get stomped? That's what happens when you get money from 1A teams.
And also your thread title does suck.

VT and UVA are much better than UConn and certainly more established. UConn is definitely an up and coming program, one that LU should model itself after when we make the jump to I-A. yes we will eventually need teams of that caliber on the schedule, but now we need to be competitive. sly please change the title of this thread! i got a bit excited when i saw it.

This post should have been called "unrealistic." Next year Liberty will play Wake Forest and possibly another 1-A program. Right now, Wake is as tough a 1-A opponent that LU needs to play. Other than money, playing VA Tech any time in the near future would do nothing for Liberty's program. Maybe down the road with Rocco's UVA connections LU could make a trip to Charlottesville but I don't see it happening soon. Lets just focus on winning the Big South first, then making the 1-aa playoffs, then winning in the playoffs and establishing a competitive, winning 1-aa program.

I heard a interview w/ Rocco and he acted like Rutgers wasn't a sure thing. He seemed to be more concerned with playing w/ teams we can compete with as you said guest forever. I donl't think it would do us any good right now to play Rutgers. That would be 2 games we probably wouldn't win. Rocco seemed more concerned w/ building confidence. Those three weeks in the fall (UConn, YSU, & WMARY) were probaly three of the worst weeks of my life. I can't imagine how the players felt. Rutgers put up 45 against Arizona St in there bowl game and still lost. Temple a hundred in basketball maybe. They put up 3 against UVa and lost 70-7 to Bowling Green. I believe we did just as well against BG. I don't think those games do any good for the fans or the players until we are ready.

I was on Rutgers web site and they do have LU on the schedule for next year. Not sure about the date but they are listed as a home game. So Rutgers and Wake are the 1A's. William and Mary, Western Carolina, Towson, and Norfolk St are the out of conference teams on for next year I have heard. Not a bad schedule considering the circumstances.

oh- and Temple has sucked for as long as I can remember. No one up here expects anything outta the new guy either (no offense SMOOTHIE)
I'm pretty sure 'Nova, Delaware or Lehigh could take them.

I know I'm taking this thread completely offcourse, but I wonder if Temple might be a future Big South football school? If they can keep their I-A status alive a fe wmore years, they would make a likely partner in any conference for LU.

now THAT would be cool. I could make almost any Temple game up here. My sister is a Temple alum.

no offense taken medic. i have no clue why al golden wanted that job other than al groh is a micro manager. golden's ultimate goal is to be the head coach at penn state, but that job is reserved for tom bradley. as far as temple in the big south, it will never happen. the A-10 would welcome them in or correction the CAA as it is now. i know that league has a chance of being very large, but that league still has that old A-10 influence. plus it would not surprise me to see that league split up and the A-10 be formed again.

Temple would never be in a "South" conference. It is weird enough that they are in the MAC.
Scheduling Tech and UVA does add something - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$! Wooo Hooo!

if we are gonna play I-A's i would rather stick with the MAC or the sun belt, and maybe even conference USA. Llet's wait awhile on those good teams in the BCS conferences.

Thanks, biggie, for another voice of reason. Football isn't like hoops, where a Big South school can be borderline competetive on a give night with the big boys. Playing a school like Tech or UVA serves no reason other than to get guys hurt and destroy morale. Sure wonder how LU would have been the last several years with easier games atthe beginning of the season instead of getting hammerred.
