some observations from the game yesterday, at a point of transition. Lack of veteran leadership made yesterday's game an impossible situation. Coupled with the head coach with his hands in his pockets for much of the game. 8 freshmen starting having to grow up in a tough way. Speed is an issue.. NSU never was threatened vertically, xcept for the flea flicker on the 1st play, ball under thrown, and we were run down. No vertical push running game. Stretch zone only and with terrell injured/out,ineffective. Secondary was especially vulnerable to the curl/slant in cover 2, with little or no adjustment til late. Also, found out that resources will flow again due to changes, i.e. fb operation center.,

Falwell put himself into a situation where he absolutely has to hit a homerun with the new coach. That being said, I can't see us hiring anyone from the D-II ranks or high school. The most likely scenario, I feel, is us getting a D-I A assistant coach. The dream scenario is taking someone who everyone would have considered it a complete step down to join LU (like a Rutigliano).
For some reason, Jeff Bowden's name popped out at me... Although that was conjecture on whoever posted it's part.
I think him, Fisher DeBerry, Michael Haywood (off. coordinator of Notre Dame), Holtz, Dan Reeves, and Mike Ditka (i'm not kidding) should all be on the short list.

ed- I agree w/ you. He will have to hit a homerun with the new coach. If Falwell wants a Good program in his lifetime he will need a big name.

Big name is going to cost millions. What is Liberty willing to pay and AD? Coach?

FHSflash -- Big names wouldn't necesssarily cost as much as you might think. One of the unique facets of Liberty is that the school is about more than strictly education. It represents a greater cause that many who have already reached the pinnacle of success in their careers find attractive. Much like Sam years ago, we represent a challenge to do something special for someone who may already be financially set for life.
I personally don't think Fisher DeBerry is even a remote possibility even though I think he'd do an outstanding job. With the commotion behind him in Colorado Springs, he'll finish out his career there and retire soon.
As for Dan Reeves, he was mentioned prominently back when we hired Karcher. Perhaps it was simply wishful thinking on our part. Much like Holtz, he would have health concerns that might proclude him from being considered for either the AD or coaching vacancies. But he would be an outstanding selection for either one.
