i just spoke with mickey guridy a good friend of mine and the director of football operations and the gardner-webb game has been moved to thursday october 27, and will hopefully be on ESPNU. the coastal game is tentative for thurs oct 20. there has been some discussion of it possibly being on saturday the 22nd. personally i love thursday night football, and if we can get TV exposure that is a plus! you never know maybe the locals will come out as well!

Speaking of ESPNU - Has anyone purchases the service and are you satisified? SkyAngel carries the Liberty Channel and I might get that if the Liberty Channel is going to carry most if not all of the home games!

hopefully it becomes part of the lineup on DirecTv, I don't believe it is as of this moment, but they are always adding or removing channels.

So far, it is nothing to get excited about. CSTV is better right now IMHO. But ESPN is planning on being in this for the long haul and sending some of their content over that way. Right now, ESPNU isn't worth more than a quick pause as you're skimming the channels.

any national TV coverage we can get is good. I personally kinda like the "U" . They had good coverage of the non-revenues this spring!

I think ESPNU is on the Sports package for DirectTV. I am looking at getting DTV and adding the Sports pack. Over 30 more sports channels for $12 a month. A man's dream!!

I'd definitely be banished to the office if I added that package, I'm bad enough now w/ 3-4 ESPNs and the NFL channel, as well as all the History and Discovery channels!

Man, I hope the Liberty Channel is covering those games on Thursday night. I would love to come back and call some football games. I don't know if they would ask me. As far as ESPNU I have not seen it yet. DTV may make it a regular channel. I like CSTV and would love it if Liberty brokered a deal to show our FTN telecasts on that outlet. I talked to them in an unofficial capacity back in early 2004 and I sent them a DVD of one of our games and they said they would be willing to pick some up because the production value was good. I didn't have the power or resources to make that happen but I know there is interest. Many more of you guys could see the games if that happened that is for sure.

Great points SCAR. CSTV would bring us into many more homes - more importantly access for potential recruits to see us on TV. This SkyAngel satelite set up is interesting. They carry all of the Cleveland Cav games and list LU as one of the teams on their weekly sports line up on the Liberty Channel. If the Liberty Channel carries all of the home football and basketball games and SkyAngel carries the Liberty Channel - then it makes sense for me to pony up $11 a month to have access to the Flames on the tube.
SCAR - do you think showing the men's home basketball games on the Liberty Channel hurts attendence? Do you think the games should be broadcast on tape delay?

Personally I don't think it hurts attendance. True there are people that stay home to watch because it is convenient but that happens for all sports. There are many teams, professional and college that show the games on TV and they don't worry about the impact on attendance. The NFL is the only entity that really cracks down on that. They have to be sold out the Thursday before a Sunday game in order not to be blacked out. Attendence will be fine if the programs get marketed right and the community starts to own Liberty Athletics like we have discussed before on these boards. I don't mind a tape delay though if they feel it is necessary. Total abolition of the games locally would only hurt their cause in the end in my opinion.

Personally, I have always felt that television coverage builds a fanbase with folks who wouldn't normally reach into their wallets to see a team play. So the few who would rather stay at home on watch are equally matched by new fans who want to experience what they've seen on television firsthand.
If you are wanting to build a following, you want to be as available as possible. The NFL can do whatever it wants and still be king.
