Paul has received a tryout with the Texas Rangers and if they like what they see he may be signed to them as a free agent...lets all wish him luck.

are you sure it wasn't the Texans? Not positive myself, just word of mouth.

I'll watch for him out at Reliant Park the next couple of days. They usually inivite in several young guys so they can have quarterbacks for running drills through camp. I don't think David Carr has much to worry about.
They carried 4 QBs last year: Carr, Tony Banks, Dave Ragone & B.J. Symons. B.J. still has health issues but is in NFL Europe right now.

Paul's name wasn't on the official list of rookies at Texans Mini-Camp tomorrow. But neither was Chance Mock of Texas who we've heard also is being given an opportunity to run with the guys who will actually make the team. If I see Paul out there, I'll be sure to give him a big welcome to Houston.

Poor Chance Mock. It always a shame when one of these huge recruits go to a school where they have to battle for their position against other great athletes, especially Texas after the whole Applewhite and Simms ordeal. He could have easily played if we would have transferred somewhere else like Texas AM or Texas Tech or something.

Oh come on! ECU? That's just poor reporting. I don't want to start ranting here, but journalism or jounalism schools have taken a serious nosedive.

Hey, why not? ECU's the only place where he ever played a decent game, anyways. Why not hang on to your "glory days", I'm sure he'd like to forget his season with LU.

You know i dont wanna stir up the rats nest or hurt feelings but do you all think it could be the receivers or the offensive line that caused him to have a bad season. from 2001-2003 i watched many games and watched many pockets collapse after the snap leaving the qb very little time to do anything. I think honestly the O-line has never been good at all since Biff Parsons last years and even then it wasnt that great. The one game i did happen to witness this year (will and mary), was the same way. Immediately after the snap, he would the defense all over him. Honestly I think Karcher needs to look at revamping the OL before doing anything else before this year. think about it a few years back we had JK Scott, a transfer from Washington who was the #2 qb only behind Marquest Tallupsooo (sp?) (who was a heisman canidate and now a NFL qb). transfers to LU and flops. ECU guy transfers who puts up impressive number at ECU but i guess LU's talent was just too overwhelming. i dunno just something to think about. our WR's over the years have been to stellar as well

I got out to the morning session of Rookie Mini-Camp that ends today. Paul looked good throwing alongside Texas' Chance Mock and New Mexico State's Buck Pierce. He's definitely bigger with a stronger arm from what I could see. I didn't get a chance to talk to him because we were shooting a different story when the players walked off the field. He remains VERY long shot to get invited to training camp.
For the record, the Texans have his college listed as Liberty on the Mini-Camp roster.

I got a chance to see him one time this year and was not impressed. He is way too slow. A decent arm but needs more speed to get away from tacklers and is too interception prone. Even a East Carolina he threw way too many intercepts. I guess he is easy to pick up to a defensive back.

Sparrow, the guy was totally inaccurate, even when he did have time. Sure, our receivers aren't that great, but it's hard to fault an o-line who created a monster running game with three different running backs last year. It's possible that it has something to do with the drawn up line formations on passing plays, but that's coaching, not necessarily personnel.
Any word if Dre Barnes got a tryout with anyone?

Our O line is about as poor as The Broncos'. I mean all they could do is provide blocking to produce 200+ yard games with 3 different running backs.

good point alumnus. that could be the case as well.
Dre's Size will hold him back from getting anywhere. There can only be one Barry Sanders in the league. Eugene on the other hand could possibly land somewhere if recovers from the injuries well

Yeah, I think Sproles is the small guy for this year. I don't even see him doing well. But I'm not an NFL scout either.

Yeh i used to think darren sproles was going to be next great RB after the way he lit up an Oklahoma defense full of all americans but oklahoma defense has been ripped apart quite a but my mediocre rb since that game. Its incredible to think what barry sanders accomplished: a weak offensive line and team for that matter and the defense knew they were running the ball 75% of the time and yet he still managed to find ways to rack big yards. It also shows how bad the lions qb's were like scott mitchell who should of took advantage of the running game and a opened up offense. I dunno maybe our Liberty qb's were just that bad

coaching staff, my man. There are enough guys out there that can make chicken salad outta chicken poop but we never seem to land them.

For the record, Paul wasn't invited to offseason coaching sessions for the Texans. But he could still be brought in for training camp.

Yeah, I wasn't ever impressed with Paul. The only time I saw anything impressive was when I went to a couple of practices and saw him throwing when it was just he and the recievers. Lots of people can have a good arm when that's the case.
Guess I don't own an arena league team, lol-maybe he's been polishing up since he left LU.
