Local CBS affiliate tonight ran the story that Rocco has already accepted the position at LU. They also included Ron Prince leaving for K. State as part of the story. The Washington Post article has hit the wire now. Link (Click Me)And here's the text:

I can't say who I talked too, but this is basically a done deal, Danny is meeting with Groh in the morning. Also last night on the 6 o'clock news WSET ran the rumor story about Coach Rocco coming.

this is not surprising. if im not mistaken prince is from kansas. it was bound to happen in that he is a young up and comer. if true i wish him well as well as rocco. of course the local media is anti-UVA and im sure they are spinning it in a way that makes UVA look bad.

Well, honestly what postive spin can you have up at UVA, seeing that I am up there every week. They have done nothing, they have 6 wins, (Western Michigan, Temple and Dook) FSU is not anything as what it was back then, the only win that I would say gives them cred is GT and that was at home. On top of Prince and Rocco being basically gone, Golden is on his way out too. Good time to be-wahoo Bigsmooth, I know you love them.

Have the guys at WSET finally started to read this board? I can't imagine them putting any effort to finding anything about our coaching search. Perhaps they have friends at UVa that tipped them off.

the positives are even though the hoos have been an average, people like UVA assistants, and most UVA fans think the play calling on both offense and defense are lacking, so maybe new blood will help, and quite frankly im not of a fan of golden's defensive schemes. so those are positives. negatives are obviously continunity in the staff, and the recruiting contacts prince and golden have made. but i feel things will be fine b/c utlimately groh is the final salesperson. it has alwyas been said that groh is hard to work for so maybe now hee will adapt. im not seeing many negatives here from a true wahoo fan. again i welcome rocco, he will do a great job at LU!

I'm laughing only because I've had the same thought, esp in light of the mania down at FSU over Jeffy poss leaving them for us. How much of this are we responsible for circulating? ah, the power of the Firehouse!

Amazing. The Lynchburg paper gets scooped by the Post. At least nothing is on their on-line edition this AM. Perhaps Chris can shed some light when he wakes up.

The story came out of sources from UVa. Since I don't cover Virginia, like Mark Schlabach does, I don't have those sources. Notice nobody from Liberty has confirmed or denied that the job has been offered. I was in Farmville covering basketball last night. If an offer had been tendered last night, I was supposed to receive a call from the Falwells. I didn't. I will nail down the timeline today. I was well aware of everything that was happening, but I didn't have the sources saying an offer had been made. Everyone has been tight lipped around here. Therefore, nothing was written.

Chris, you can only report what you know is true and should be commended for not speculating, especially when you were told you would get confirmation regarding an offer. For one, I appreciate your coverage of LU. The fact that you are an active participant on this board shows that you are commited to providing the best coverage possible. Thanks again.

I respect you, too Chris. Thanks for posting on these boards! We know you can't write things until you know they are true.
