Okay let me start out by saying THIS IS TOTALLY JUST WHAT I HEARD and I WILL NOT VOUCH FOR ITS ACCURACY
Now, my brother has a friend who is apparently in with some LU bigwigs. He informed my brother that supposedly Karcher has already been told he's on his way out and that his contract will be bought out at the end of the season. (which we all have hoped for) THAT BEING SAID, it's also rumored that a top ACC assistant coach is already in the mix to take the job. ONCE AGAIN, this is totally rumor and I can't promise any of it is accurate. BUT LORD I HOPE SO!
Can anyone verify any of this? Chris? Have you heard any mumblings?
YOU HEAR IT FIRST. haha, I hope it's true because it really is time for KK to be o-u-t and it'd be so nice to have a respected coach get in here, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what comes out in the coming weeks!!

I have not posted this before because what I was told, didn't happen. However it may have some revelance now because of the situation and w-l record.
Last year with two games to go, I was told by someone VERY close to the throne, that there would be a change made and that there was a donor ready to ensure we got a high-level/high paid coach. Don't know how/why that did not come to fruition, but I throw it out just to say that at one time the thought process was there.

flameshaw - I believe what you heard was accurate a year ago. But the much rumored Lou/Skip Holtz deal fell through when Skip was offered the East Carolina job.
lufbfan3 - I wouldn't be at all surprised if your information is accurate. But at this point it is just rumor and innuendo.

I guess we will see what will go down in the coming weeks but it will be exciting if it were true.

I thought that there was more to the "Lou Holtz coming to Lynchburg" that went down last year than LU was willing to admit. And I think that the same thing holds true this time around, although I sincerely doubt that Holtz will man the sidelines next season.
My sources told me that two years ago, LU was ready to drop the axe -- even taking the clipboard out of Karcher's hands when he went 2-6... and then LU rattled off four straight wins. The rumor had it that anything less than 6 wins and he was canned; anything more it was up to Falwell. After the OT win against Hofstra, it could be argued that the team was on the up-and-up, and so LU opted to at least let Karcher finish out his contract.
It would be interesting to see the media coverage if we get a big-name coach, especially in light of Gado's performance. Would ESPN take note, or what?
Could be an interesting few weeks indeed. I'm debating whether or not I'll go to the NSU game this Saturday...

I heard something about a Bowden, possibly the asst. coach from FSU? Once again, this is just what I've heard-not what I know. My bet is that ol' Lou is definitely at LU as a consultant (and to give us some leverage I'd imagine!). I'm dying to know if KK is really gone. I feel like he has to be--if not, I would think that more jobs need to be re-evaluated than Karcher's. I think that with the right coach (especially with good name recognition) could really get us on the right track-and at least we could get some POSITIVE exposure--Sam has been an exception to the rule and it'd be nice to have something going for us in the present in addition to the nation's knowledge that we quite possibly performed the greatest mishandling of an RB in college history... (Once again, thank you Coach K--you were obviously right about the RB situation... ) Anyways, I'm off my soapbox for the evening--only ONE MORE GAME LEFT and then we shall know the truth. (let's hope it's one we want to know!)

Despite some statements to the contrary on this forum, I think whoever coaches next year will be coming into a decent situation. Our core talent base is extremely young with tons of upside. Other than the two brutal I-As on the schedule, the rest of the games should be winnable if a new system can be put in place in time.
Call me crazy but a change of scenery can do wonders for a program. The last two times I've covered a new coach coming into a struggling program, the impact was immediate ... Mack Brown at Texas and Art Briles at Houston.

I think there is great talent at the skill positions. Just look at all the Freshmen on the Week this year but I don't know about the linemen and that is where the game is won and lost.

You are right about the linemen. Both the offensive and defensive line is lacking in young talent right now even though there are 3 starters but the units are so bad we could use a complete overhaul in those area. Need to do some serious recruiting in this area and could use some impact transferes if we are to compete next year. The offensive skill positions and the secondary has some potential for the future if things pan out. Nice to hear the rumor about the potential coaching change. Hope it comes to reality after this weeks game. My question is how high can LU go as far as what we pay this guy? Hopefully the committee will make the right choice so we can look forward to the future.

I thought that a committee was formed by the President John Borek when Sam retired. That was what the Daily Advance stated.

Got to remind, no sacks given up in the last 3 games by the O line. Also, the running game has improved, due to Terell and a unit that had been shuffled repeatedly due to waivering veteran leadership, but as of late, been able to develop some continuity, timing, and chemistry. I believe 4 of the current 5 are returning, with some good ones waiting for their turn.

I realize that things have improved in the areas you have mentioned but also take into consideration the suspect competition over the last 2 weeks have contributed somewhat to the improvement.

No sacks vs 9th ranked coastal, and triple OT. Not necessarily suspect. Averaging 400 yds of offense in last 3 games.

Gardner Webb and Chuck South would be considered suspect competition the way I look at it. But point taken. Maybe the defense would be considered the main problem.

To answer your question Outsider. That is what I heard based on the Daily Advance. Too far away from Lynchburg to witness it. Borek and Kim Graham were on the committee.

He pretty much talked about his times coaching football. He did mention some good points to apply to life. I can't remember them off the top of my head but some good stuff. He talked about inheriting some losing programs and turning them around within 2 years.

I'm debating whether or not I'll go to the NSU game this Saturday... I'd be there if I could- I'd say definitely go, this team-these kids- need our support. Need to know we are behind them in spite of the record and are positive about next year.

Isn't it ironic that South Carolina gets its sanctions the day he's here on campus?
Did you ask him about it, Chris?

I didn't even realize the sanctions had come down, so no I didn't ask him. I was so busy running around working on basketball previews that I was a bit out of the loop on that info.

Trust me, I completely understand. That's what editors are for. When SC's sanctions came down they should've been calling or paging you ASAP. But I digress.

I agree wholeheartedly. Frankly, I hope we win not only for the players but the outgoing coaches as well. Their fate are already sealed so there is no reason to wish anything but good will on them for the future. Let's send Coach K and his assistants out as winners Saturday.
And if you are on campus and see the players around the next few days, let them know how much you support them and give them some encouragement. This has to be an extremely emotional time for them right now.
