I've been accused of being optimistic before, so take this at face value... but I think that we can end our consecutive losing weeks streak against the Byes this time around.

So, is it BYE or SELL???
Me, I'm selling. At a loss. Perhaps a lost cause, too. At least if we sell, perhaps we will get CHANGE back. I think we all agree we need change.

Financial humor. Not bad.
But it'd be funnier if you registered.

Critic- what is your prediction on the Tech game tomorrow? I would like to see a close game but Tech is so tough this year, playing at home on a Sat. Night.

Miami will bring their best to Blacksburg but VT is too tough at home and they feed off of that crowd and their defense is the best I have seen in quite a while. Miami will put up a fight but VT will win by a score of 32-13.

Tech will win. They have Marcus, and Marcus won be the national title on NCAA Football 06. I have faith.

I don't see either team winning big. I think it will go down to the wire. The Hurricanes can still ball despite their slow start this season.

Dude, I searched through every friggin school on there looking for Coastal. Coach Bennett said that our AD is lobbying to em this year about us getting on there and, to quote Steven A. Smith, quite frankly, if we make the playoffs, we better be on there.
I kicked JMU's tail with VaTech the week before we played em. I whooped up on App on there just cause I knew we couldn't.
We're on the basketball game though. At least we were last year. Our gym looks so bad on that game.
And as for the mighty Bye Week, we let them hang around and were down by 10 going into the fourth quarter but we came back and won on a 60 yard TD pass to Jerome Simpson with 16 seconds left. It was a close one.

I think that the IAA teams are added by conference. Maybe they haven't added the BSC because we have only 5 teams and aren't the greatest. I think most IAA are on there now. They have over 300 some teams for basketball. Hopefully with yall making the playoffs the BSC will get some recognition.

Well I will be covering the game in Blacksburg later tonight. I think Tech is unstopable at home and on ESPN, the Hokies are 11-0 on ESPN night games. I will have some audio if any of you guys want it after the game. VT 31- the U 13. Advantage Beamer with that just givememthemic

VT is overlooking the U as is everyone else who has posted. the canes defense is just as good, but the slight edge is to the hokies b/c they are at home. Lane is a tough, tough place to play. not much scoring here and it will come down to the kicking game....17-14 THE U!!! sebastian the ibis will be dancing down main street in blacksburg tonight!!!

It certainly would help matters for the Longhorns to take away the only threat to their trip back to Pasadena.
I'm not sure who will win. But I think it will be a tight one as I mentioned earlier in the thread. I think the Hokie fans are a little too confident right now.

I cheer for Tech except when playing LU. I think they need to be humbled. WHy is no one talking about there weak nonconference schedule??Marshall,Ohio & WVu(In Morganstown-a decent nonconference game) Texas went in Ohio St the 2nd week of the season. If Tech is going to be chasing a National Championship they need to beef up there schedule.

Its an interesting juxtaposition. Schools like VT pad their schedule with patsies to put themselves in the hunt. Then they hope those who schedule tougher non-conference opponents get knocked off so they can slide into title game. But if they scheduled a challenging non-conference lineup, the odds of them going unbeaten are greatly lowered.
I think you need to find a happy medium. You need to schedule at least one legitimate non-conference challenge along with the usual cupcakes. I can tell you the Horns would probably be in 3rd right now without scheduling the Buckeyes because the Big XII was obviously down this year. Other than Texas Tech & Colorado to an extent, it was tough foresee everybody else in the conference dropping off simultaneously this fall. Having the non-conference insurance is what is keeping the Horns headed toward the Roses.

I was in Blacksburg Tuesday and hung out at practice. Trust me, the players are not overlooking Miami. Not one bit. They looked loose, but they're definitely taking Miami seriously.
The fans are a different story. Fans will be fans. But the players are locked in.
Re: non-conference schedules. By the end of the season, Tech's win at West Virginia will look every bit as good as Texas' win at Ohio State. Take those two away, and Texas' other non-conference games were against Rice at La.-Lafayette. Tech's are Marshall and Ohio. The schedules are a wash.
And Tech is trying to schedule up. People keep backing out. Wisconsin just backed out of a deal that has been set since I was in school in the mid-90s. Would have been a home and home but Wisconsin wanted no part of it.
LSU is back on the schedule (on the road) in 2007, and VT and Tennessee are still trying to work on the Bristol deal.
The problem with scheduling is that everything is done so far in advance that a team that was good when you scheduled it (Marshall) may stink by the time you play the game. Plus, when Tech went to the ACC, it had to fill a bunch of non-conference holes because it had non-conference series scheduled against Virginia, North Carolina and North Carolina State. That's tough to do on short notice. Some schools have their out of conference schedules set five, 10 years in advance.

Spoken as a true alum apologist, Chris. ;D
Somehow I don't see WV's victories in the joke of a Big East conference carrying the weight of Ohio State in the Big Ten. But that's just my opinion.

And I don't see Texas' wins in a joke of a Big 12 holding much weight either. The Big 10 is pretty down, too. (Penn State up, Wisconsin OK, Michigan, Purdue and Iowa way down).
Good thing is that Ohio State is on the VT schedule for a home-and-home in a few years. If they don't back out. ;D

Interesting thoughts fellas. But I would say that scheduling is ten times as hard in football as it is in hoops and we all know how hard it is in hoops. The reason is (and I am sure you all know this) because there is no playoff. Everything depends on public opinion pretty much and perception of the teams you beat. Therefore there is so much out of your control except to win the games you play and not apologize for playing them....In hoops it really doesn't matter where you are ranked in the top 25 and to a lesser extent where you are seeded in the tournament.

Superjohn- On NCAA football you can play the Appy ST vs LSU game since they are actually playing tonight. The boys from Boone will not know what hit them when they walk on the field in Baton Rogue tonight.
