Coach Holtz spoke for about 35 mins, I agree with FSN 32 you could hear some of the Catholic background. I had the opportunity to talk to him afterwards and he was impressed with the school. But overall good message this morning.

LOU was awesome, granted i am very bias ND fan and was really looking foward to this for about 3 weeks....but lou was great, he was funny, very positive about the unversity, and had a great message on having dreams and living with character. He told some good jokes, most of which i think flew by most of the crowd, but it was awesome so have a guy like him to speak.

It takes a CCU guy to post that link?
Thanks, 89.

Interesting to say the least. I know he thrives on the interaction with the players and more than likely misses it. An HC job at LU just might be what the docter ordered for old Lou.

Talk about instant credibility for your program. That would do it.

Not that is is up to me but I would want a solid transition plan in place up front if we hire a guy that old. I like Lou. he owuld get fannies in the stands and $$$ rolling into the Flames Club. He's a dynamic leader. But we fired a good head coach back in 1988 to bring in Coach Rutigliano. Sam gave us some good years but Morgan Hout laid the foundation. The windfall from Sam's hire wasn't as great as expected.
There are no shortcuts to greatness. I never heard of Coach Bennett - but I'll tell you right now - I'd take him in a heartbeat. Sometimes hiring a name isn't the answer. It's finding the right guy, at the right place, at a moment in time, with a chance to be great.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but there has to be some connection between all of this and Lou Holtz. I mean - this timing is too convenient. Lynchburg is laid back and Holtz could do a ton of golfing with potential donors. Plus, you have to love the whole Notre Dame tie. Jerry would be waxing prophetic by bringing an ex-ND guy after all the talk of being the Notre Dame for Baptist Schools.

Darrell is our newsside columnist who has a pretty rich knowledge of the area and of LU. He's also a former sports writer, so he knows what he's talking about in that respect.

I'm guessing having this board as a resource didn't hurt efforts in chasing the facts in this story.

I must say that when I was at LU, I used to love to read Darrell Laurant columns. As a matter of fact, I sometimes look up the N&A website to read his columns. Of course, I always stop by and check out what Chris Lang has to say too......

Well, you forget so readily that Karcher rode the bench at Notre Dame for two years before transferring to Tulane.

Ya and Ken Karcher is also a legend in the city I live in. He is a Shaler HS grad and actually has a street named after him in my plan.
