Coach/AD route rarely works. This next AD will be more of a - business development guy (i.e. begging for money). I don't know if you can coach a major sport and be out on the trail securing funds. Not at LU. We need a full time AD walking around with his hand out. we need an influx of $$$ to get this thing jump started. I hope the rumor I heard about a donor underwriting the cost of the new coach is true.

Bud Foster is an interesting name to float around.
Watching UVa and VA Tech hitting the lottery every year by recruiting kids straight out of Virginia has been awesome. I'm here in the Virginia Beach area, until I get back on campus next month, but there is a ton of talent in Virginia. We should be able to field an incredible team with just VA talent alone. We certaintly know Bud can recruit this area.
But at the same time, Liberty is a vessel for reaching people for Christ. I want the next coach not only to be good with the X's and O's but to be a firm spiritual leader. Jerry always preaches about being distinctively Christian, so let's do it on the football field - especially at a time where we're starting to get some media attention.

I think everybody's in agreement that its about more than winning- but WINNING is a big part of that witness. We had a guy that, by all accounts, oversaw a spiritually strong program but without the results on the field. This time we have to balance the equation. But the original point by HBURG is important- the AD position MUST be separate, with distinctly a different mission/goals. Much more heavily oriented to administration and fundraising, not forgetting the other 15 sports! This requires a special person with unique management qualifications and skills.

Well - there is only one question left to ask. Will this message board be the first to release the new coach's name?

I don't see any way that we would want Lou Holtz...first of all, is he even a Christian? Second of all, South Carolina is now under probation because of recruiting violations under Lou Holtz...that usually doesn't give you a good name when you're trying to get a new job.

I think Jeff Bowden would be a great choice. He has some pretty good connections throughout Florida in terms of recruiting. I think his Rainbow Offense would work quite well at Liberty.

One thing all the Bowdens do well is recruit. I'm confident he could do a great job in that respect if he were to come to LU.

Are we sure Jeff Bowden is even in the running for the job or is that his name is being brought up out of pure speculation.

My sources in Tallahassee tell me Jeff is quite interested. I have heard many around the Bowden camp see this as a fantastic opportunity for Jeff (kinda like Bobby's early days)

Steve - Jeff is under fire for leading an underachieving offense the past couple of seasons. You can be sure Bobby has no interest in canning his baby boy. So it wouldn't take much thought to realize that getting a I-AA head coaching position would let both Jeff & Bobby off the hook. Its also no secret that the Bowdens fit the Liberty profile of candidates. If you go to the FSU boards, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
I've heard from some folks on campus (who shall remain nameless) that he is being considered. Whether he is too expensive or whether he feels the situation is too dire to step into is open for speculation.
He would fit the profile of what we would want in a potential coach by having name recognition and being young enough to be somewhat cost effective.
All that said, there may not be any discussions of any significance going on right now. But its my understanding that there has been some contact.

How much did the previous coach make? Jeffy only makes 200k, so I am sure you can beat that.

Supposedly Karcher was making in the $125-150k range. But we could probably do something in the $200k ballpark for the right candidate (hey, its not MY money we're talking about).
