The season is just over a month away and its obvious the new Football Operations Center is nowhere close to done. It supposed to look like this: Anybody have any progress to report on the big hole in the ground? Getting this facility up & running will pay major dividends on the recruiting front.

the last press announcement someone posted earlier today about construction in general (see my post about the 90' tower) indicated Jerry Jr mentioned work is now progressing on this. I was gonna ask about pix from someone on campus but I don't wanna push it, we just got the ones of the ice hockey arena and the shock of THAT nearly knocked me over. Also wanted pix of Hancock's weightroom that I mentioned to ya (for AGS).

Actually, I put picks up of the FOC, remember, it was the big hole. They put a chain-lnk fence around the area last month, and sometimes there's a dump truck doing stuff over there, but that's about as much action as your going to get.

So in other words, we're HOPEFUL for the 2006 season?
I saw the NewsAdvance article. I was looking for an update from somebody who actually had been by the big hole in the ground recently. aLUmnus fit the bill perfectly.

with LU, their deadline = about a year later after the original deadline.

Back in the day, they were always fairly close to on schedule with projects. Particularly when you have cash in hand already. I know the weather sucked for awhile. But you'd think we would be further along with this project than this. A couple of us and a bulldozer could make that kind of progress in a day.

All you have to do is say the two words "Liberty Village" and we all understand. But it is disappointing.

Kind of reminds me of what happened to the baseball fieldhouse. Completed 4 years after the original deadline. Something like that. It is hard to believe that Ice Hockey would take precidence over football. Where is our priorities. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

Forgive me if I am wrong (and I very well may be) but I don't think they are making anymore progress on the rink than they are the football facility. Same contractor, perhaps?

Well...a couple of things: 1. Our ice hockey program wins...so they should get precidence (and lets face it, the Big South will never add ice hockey...so our chances of joining a quality conference for that sport once it finally moves up are much greater).
2. I can see the Ice Rink being done before the football center...looks like more work is going on over at the rink than at the field.
3. Anyone want an update on my love life, involving: 3 stalkers, a crush who sees me as a "really good friend", and now: an ex-girlfrined?

Although I will agree that our hockey team is pretty strong-I also will have to say that maybe if we didn't start so many projects simultaneously, we could get them all done in a reasonable amount of time-regardless of who's better. Building started on the f-ball project months before the hockey project if I'm correct in my time frames, and I just think it's silly to try and do both. In my opinion, there has been about 2 weeks work done on the football "building"-which is really just a crater next to the football field. Maybe we can make it into a pool and start a diving team... I just think they should put the work in and finish one building before they get gung ho about another. Weather does cause an issue, but seriously-it hasn't been raining every day for almost a year!! I've heard that big $$ was given solely for the hockey team--maybe that could be it?? Not enough $$ to finish the football stuff yet? Who knows.

I'll check it out on Friday when I am on campus. I think the issue is probably $$$. LU is famous for starting projects with lack of $$$ and then having someone step up to complete them. That's called faith. I bet someone steps up with a major contribution to the FOC and you start to see construction in that big hole.

Where's the Williams Family on this one? They probably don't want their namesake looking like a construction site any more than we do. Though its bad form to keep drawing from the same well all the time.

Any word on when the 3rd and 4th floors of DeMoss will be completed. WIth the school expanding so much maybe this should be moved to the front burner?

Concerning the football operations center it looks like 2006 is the target date. According to the media guide it looks like the original plan did change. Some things were added that were not on the original plan. Didn't know about the viewing area for patrons as well as the 3 video rooms and the practice area. Sounds first class to me. Hope it becomes a reality. Hopefully can draw some better recruits for the future.

Hearing about Carswell's accident and reading that Sam Gado is now on the Packers active roster got me to thinking that LU needs to establish some type of hall or area in the lobby(in the new facility) that recognizes former players accomplishments. I'm sure not all of them have been model "champions" since leaving LU but there should be some link to the past that helps build tradition.

I think they have the All-American athletes (from 1980 haha) "showcased" in the Vines Center--but as far as I know, that's it.
Maybe they could showcase them in the football building....OH WAIT-it's still just a hole in the ground.

when i spoke to dr. park at homecoming, it was a contractor thing. the same group that is doing the ice rink, will build the football center. i have been told the money is all there. it will be a great facility when it is done. hopefully by the time we get our new coach ;D

a room featuring history on the program would be great. so would some jersey retirements or a "ring of honor" like they have in dallas. and royers rock should be outside the new center as the flames come out on the field. im gonna write up some suggestions and send them to dr. park, as my vision for LU atheletics. Jerry says dream big, so why not?!!

Bigsmooth- I was just talking to my wife yesterday about having a Rock in honor of Coach Royer for LU like Clemson does. Send it to Dr Park.

I mentioned it (the Rock Royer memorial) to Bob Good from the Flames Club when down for homecoming. He indicated that there HAS been a lot of discussion on tie-ins to our short history, and Rock Royer has not been forgotten. We'll see.

But no, it won't be moved to the front burner. No one expected a 900,000 square foot facility to be donated to us when those plans were made, however. The third and fourth floors will come, but they're most definitely not the top priority right now.

Its just good to know we have built-in growth potential in the central portion of the campus. When they have to start putting classes on the other side of 460 it will be brutal. It'll be tough enough for folks hoofing it all the way to North Campus.

Sly you gotta get up here soon. You and Mrs. Fox need to visit Lynchburg and hang out with the Scarboroughs and the Medics and others. It would be fun but I am sure your schedule won't permit it during Hoops season....Maybe next year when the football operations center opens (was that too optimistic?).

We were last in Lynchburg back in 2001. So we'd love to get up there again soon. My grandfather just moved to Lynchburg from Florida (usually its the other way around) so have another reason to get over there. But those of you with little kids know that travelling long distances either by plane or car is not an easy task.
As for the Football Ops Center, I'm glad to hear progress is finally beginning.
