Just another tidbit, at school today, I had a coach from D IAA University of Dayton who came in to recruit at my high school, and he said that some BIG names were interested in the LU job. I asked him to elaborate, and he went mum. hmmmm

I wonder if Dayton will ever step up and offer scholies for football. But I digress.
I get he feeling this things may not be finalized and that's why we are still waiting. Or pherps Jerry is waiting to introduce both the Coach & AD together and one or the other is still undetermined.
The longer we wait the more schools that join us searching for coaches. While we are probably looking at different targets than the Elons & VMIs of the world, it does make things a little more complicated.

Is there any truth to the rumor that former LU quarterback standout Gus "Sniper" Condon's name is being thrown around as a possibility?

How does Dayton, who doesn't give scholarships, go 9-1, and are traditionally successful? Shouldn't this be as big a recruiting detriment as a LU who offers full rides but with the "social/religious" considerations attached? UD also has a strong roman catholic affiliation in which the Marianist order is very present and involved in student life.

Ahh, yes the old Sniper, Gus is actually the QB's coach at LCA with Coach Rocco.

Won't they let the new AD hire someone he can work with? Seems getting an AD would be the main objective. How could you keep that quiet? Someone is surely seeing the candidates in Lynchburg.

Dayton plays other non-scholarship schools in the Pioneer League. That entire league which stretches from the Atlantic to Pacific Oceans and is made up of schools who want to keep their Division I membership in other sports without spending money on football. So they banded together with other schools who don't want to spend money on scholies. As a result, none of them ever are invited to the I-AA Playoffs.
FHS - I agree that the AD is the key here. Its standard operating procedure for the AD to play a key role in hiring head coaching positions. Obviously, the buck stops with Jerry on both of these hires.

and I think a lot of the names being thrown around may be part of an overall package- maybe assistants or something along those lines- could be WAY OFF on that one.
seems like there's always a little truth in everything.

Thanks Sly, makes sense, and I started looking at the media guide, the Dayton coach gave me...DIII national champs '80, '89, and DI-AA Mid Major National Champs '02? What does that mean?

means they use the same grading system as Winthrop MBB!

Careful now, PAmedic. We'd love to trade positions with the Winthrop boys right in hoops.
Basically the I-AA Mid-Major National Championship is a mythical title given to the winner of the Pioneer League Championship. Its essentially Division III football in Division I clothing. Until the NCAA starts enforcing a stronger division structure there will always be loopholes that schools quickly discover and exploit.

From what I heard and I have some pretty good sources, but they are going to announce this week that Coach Christmas is the new coach. The Offensive Cord is going to be Jingle Bell Rock and the Defensive Cord is going to be Frosty the Snowman. The Special Teams coach will be Coach Rudolph, before you ask about his track record, he has won the last 5 Speacial Olympic Super Bowls. I think his record speaks for himself about what he does with Special teams.

Looks like GSU's head coach and staff would be available. Had excellent record at Georgia Southern but I quess not up to their high standards. (national champs)

As an Alum of both CN and LU, I'd hate to lose Coach Ken Sparks at CN but he would turn LU into a winner in a very short time span, two years max. The man knows how to win. With that being said I'm not sure he would leave CN at this point in has career, brand new facilities and all. But as far as being too old, he's in the shape of a 40 year old.

Just cannot imagine a 1-A coach stepping back to !-AA for any job. It is so very difficult to move from 1-AA to 1-A. Once you get there....you don't go back. Take a long look at any coach that would consider that move. Think about it! Most assistants get paid more than what Liberty pays. Something is not right. A long closer look might be wise.
