Does anyone have detailed information on this? I know SKy Angel carries the Liberty Channel and that carries the games but i'm not sure if it works with another cable provider ( I live in central Florida and use bright house). I'm rarely home anyhow so all I would want to do is order is the Liberty Channel if anything. Also i get home late, so it would be hard to watch the week games live-- Does DVR or TIVO (recording) work with SKy Angel. ANy feedback would be greatly appreciated

Jack, you can order the Sky Angel Network by visiting www.Libertychannel.com or calling 1-800 sky angel. However if you have an internet connection you can watch live on the web! I had a few people try but they came on at the wrong time or they clicked on the audio link and listened to Jerry Edwards instead of the TV link but here are the instructions: Go to www.libertyflames.com Click on Men's basketball on the left column. Then click on Watch Home games Live - High res or Watch Home games Live - Low res depending on your connection speed and that is it! You have to tune in at the start of game time which is 7 PM the night of most home games. We usually read a little promo during the games too to remind you of the fact that we are on all over the world.

Jacksparrow...
SkyAngel is hard to get by itself, but it can be done (I've done it twice...both here in Halifax and at my parent's house in PA).
You will need to purchase a Dish Network dish and receiver...normally these cost about $149 for the set, but check your local radio shack. I bought a refurbished receiver for $29, and they had the dish/receiver set for $99. Be careful about buying used receivers on Ebay...they are worthless without a good smartcard - the card should be Gold...if you buy a used one with a blue card, they say it won't work...although my mother's came with a blue card and it is still working. THey say eventually you will need a Gold (some call it yellow) card, so might as well make sure. There are some that have gold and blue cards with a buch of network pictures on it...those are fine as well.
Once you have your dish...mounted...take a portable TV out there with you, or borrow a set of walkie talkies, and then tape the button down on one, because you will need to hear for the change in a tone when you find a satellite. Normally, you will have to connect the receiver to the satellite, and then connect it to the TV. Hit Setup, select Installation, then Select Point Dish.
Sky angel broadcasts from 61.5, on transponders 20 and 32, I think. Anyway, the easiest way to set the satellite up is to point it at the 189 satellite that dish uses. Once you point it at that, (you'll know when you got it, the point dish signal changes from red with a short beep, beep, beep to green with a really long beeeep), then that means you have it pointed, so get out of the point dish menu, and the satellite will start installing new software.
You should get the Dish1 channel for a short time, and sometimes it will lock up the satellite because it says that the receiver is not activated. If that happens, hold in the power button on the front of the receiver for like 5 seconds.
That should reset the receiver. Go back to the setup screen, and now select the 61.5 degree satellite. point it until you get the long beep. After you have that, you should get Dish1 network channel only.
Then call Skyangel to activate your account, and within a week you should have it. I just watched the Buffalo game (I heard SCAR announcing) on Skyangel last week. If you have questions, PM me, b/c satellite people don't really seem to know how to set up SkyAngel...the only real difference is they have to point the satellite in a different area of the sky...but sometimes you have to point it to the Dish Network main satellite first to update the software.
Once you have the Skyangel hooked up, there is a place on the receiver where you can run your other cable service, so you can switch between the two.

Buy the way, in order to find out where you need to point your satellite, you can go to the skyangel page, and somewhere it will let you put in your zipcode. It will give you two numbers,
Azimuth and elevation. Elevation of course is degrees from the ground to the sky...90 degrees would be straight up. Azimuth is degrees counterclockwise from 360, I think...although you can do a check on the internet to look up azimuth.
You only use the compas to roughly point the satellite...it will take a while of random aiming while listening to the beeps to get it. Just set the satellite where you think it should be...then if it is not pointed right, very slowly adjust it up and down..then move it over a quarter of an inch, and adjust it up and down, repeat until you find it.

I've tuned into the Liberty Channel locally a number of times to find no game on. Is it just me, or should every basketball game (Men's and Women's) be broadcast? The basketball games (heck, the intramural sports) would be a lot better than what's on the Liberty Channel most of the time.

I think the only ones they don't show as far as basketball are the non-IA home games (Cincinnatti Christian, etc.).
Also, they show all of the volleyball games...
I totally agree. I do hope that they would start showing more (football and ice hockey, and lacross, baseball, and softball)! Scar has to persuade LU that they need those microwave things to transfer the fiber optic signal to the control room at the vines center or whatever).

ok there techno geek. Can you figure out how to rig my DirecTv reciever to do that? I know all the literature says ya gotta have a DISH reciever- but it sounds like you may be able to come up w/ a work around.
(There's a PAmedic family Christmas card in it for ya if you can pull this one off- it may have SCAR's name scratched off but just ignore that)

Jacksparrow82...you can get a dish installer to do it for around $99 (so it would cost you $200 total...$99 for the refurbished dish and receiver from radio shack, and $99 for installation)...but you have to tell him that it needs to be pointed at the 61.5 degree satellite, not the "normal" dish satellite, which is at something like 189 degrees. However, if he's having problem's "finding" the satellite, have him point the satelite at the normal dish network one (189 degrees or whatever), download the new software, and then point it back at the other one.
PAMedic...Ah...I hear that there is a way to get directTV to get skyangel...Are you no longer using DirectTV? If not, there is rumer that the DirectTV satellite that you have outside would work to pick up skyangel, but you would still have to buy a Dish receiver (those are normally $99, but you can get them refurbished at some Radio shacks for $29)...
You would simply connect your DISH network receiver box where you're directTV receiver used to be, and repoint the satelitte dish (first at the 189 degrees, then download the new softward, then to 61.5 degrees). This would work if you no longer had directTV, and it would only cost you $29...although I can't guarantee this, but I heard that it does work, its just DISH/DIRECTV don't want you to know.
I originally tried to do this with a old directTV dish that I had, but it didn't work...but my problem was a bad splitter, not the dish.

By the way, regarding recording...whichever brand works with the DISH network...you can record using that...although I recently purchased a DVD-recorder that records onto DVD+R, and you can time it when to start, and time the source, b/c I couldn't actually watch the Buffalo game when it was on...and it worked fine.

I have to make one disclaimer...I should have said, MOST satellite people don't seem to know anthing about setting up Sky Angel. Me and my dad set up Sky Angel for my parent's house in PA by ourselves...but my dad has since passed away. When I moved to Halifax, I tried to set up my own Sky-Angel with a refurbished DISH receiver and a DirectTV dish...but I couldn't get it to work...now I have a part DirectTV part DISH network dish...and the two problems that I had were I couldn't get it pointed and I didn't have a strong enough signal (BTW...they say you have to have at least 60 signal strenth to activate...you really don't...you need to have 42). But my main problem was a bad spitter...I now have it working, but the only reason I have it working is I had some help from a local installer that was very nice and willing to help me set it up, even though they had never set up Sky Angel alone before. Between the three of us...we got it working. But you can do it on your own...you just have to be patient...and if you decide to do it and have problems, PM me. OK, I'll try to stop talking about this now.
