The best at destroying his own legacy out of spite and selfishness. He won't quit until they replace Indiana and Northwestern every year as the league's doormat. What a joke. You'd think a guy who had been at the school as long a she had would have some respect for the school.

I'd love to see a crowd like THAT at LU someday, though I'll probably be in the grave 50 years+ 'til it happens.

what is with the hating on joepa sly?? yes, he probably should retire, but it is a great story, and the fact he has turned it around speaks volumes. much credit should go to def. coord. tom bradley. he is really the ambassador of the nittany lions program. he is the main recruiter, and joepa only visits the top recruits. besides other than texas, the big 12 is average. the big ten is clearly better this year. top to bottom much better than the big 12.....congrats on finally beating OU!!!

Big Ten clearly better? Uh OK. The Big XII is defenitely down right now. But so is the Big 10. My comments on Paterno were written before this fall's dramatic turnaround. I still feel the same way in general. But I wouldn't state them so strongly at the moment. But there's still plenty of time for that bitter old man's team to head south this season.

I can't stand UNC or Duke. I hear it a lot from all these Clowns I work with here in Charlotte. I can't wait to go home. Since I'm native to Maryland and my Dad went to Maryland I grew up a Maryland fan in all all sports even Lacrosse. I almost transfered to Maryland out of Catonsville Community College to try and walk on for the Lacrosse team but decided to give up Lacrosse to go to Liberty and of course we got Lax here at LU in the mid 80's
When Maryland won the National Championship in Basketball a couple of years ago, I let my Carolina friends know who rules the roost loud and clear. I was in the Hospital and resting at home from the accident this year during the Championships and Final Four so the UNC fans did not get me back. When I'm not cheering for the Terps I pull for the Lobos in the Mountain west Conference. When I get back to 100% I hope to be Coaching again at New Mexico. But University of Maryland and the University of New Mexico hold a special place in my heart in all sports including Lax.
Also I may get some flack for this but since we have lived in Rock Hill almost seven years now my Sons and I also pull for Winthrop in Basketball but when they play Liberty I break out my best Blue and Red outfit. I have attended many a Winthrop Basketball game and cheered for the Eagles. When it comes to Liberty it is where I went to school and I pull for LU always. I do admit I'm frustrated with Football but still support them and follow them because Liberty is a special place for me .
Go Lobos!

As much as we like you coach- I believe we're gonna have to disqualify the remarks about Winthrop! LOL The Maryland bit- ok, we'll give ya that!
Go Big Blue!

NFL related - scored some SWEET Houston Oiler gear on my latest road trip up to north Jersey. Fitted Reebok oiler hat and light blue Oiler T-shirt. How about a 1960 Houston Oiler AFL championships hooded sweatshirt? Got that too by brothers from other mothers.
Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers number one....

Luv Ya Blue, baby.
We're dating ourselves, H-burg. Most of the kid son this board have no idea what a Houston Oiler is ... much less the exploding scoreboard or the old AFL.
And for the record, the color is Columbia Blue.

I wasn't gonna say anything- but since we're "hagging" I was a HUGE Roger Staubach fan in the 70's. Cowboy EVERYTHING for 5 or 6 years! Thank God I woke up- how I survived in the Philly market I'll never know.

Hey Sly -
Two great books for you to check out:
1. Oiler Blues - History of the Oilers (300 plus pages) 2. Loser Takes All - Bud Adams, Bad Football and Big Business
I also have Glanville's book, and the Houston Oilers early years. There is a book out on the old AFL titled Long Gone - that was a great read. I still haven't read Blanda - Alive and Kicking but I understand in his book he has some good takes on the Oilers and Bud Adams.

Ok my favorite NFL team is Packers who unfortunately stink this year. But it is always fun to talk about the Vikings scandal and their "love" cruise. What a joke these men are!

Bud is a piece of work. Enough said. The guy still lives in Houston and has a luxury suite at Reliant Stadium for Texans games. Bizare.
I'm familiar with "Loser Takes All". But I'm not with the Oilers history.
I saw Bum a few weeks back when he had some heart surgery at the hospital next door to my station. He still works his ranch just down south of Houston (near where Jack Sparrow used to live until recently). Dante Pastorini is still racing dragsters and doing some 24 hours-style racing based just outside of town. You can't go anywher down here without running into an Elvin Bethea or Kenny Burroughs. About the only former Oiler great you don't see much down here is Billy "White Shoes" Johnson.
It may be hard for some to remember, but both Steve McNair and Eddie George began their pro careers as Houston Oilers before Bud highjacked the team to Tennessee.

Sly -
That is awesome you running into all of those guys. I miss Bum. Do an Amazon.com search for the book "Oiler Blues - The story of pro football's most frustrating team". The author is John Pirkle. I really enjoyed that book - good stuff.

College FB: Michigan, Tennessee, Liberty (of course) Well, those are my main ones. Pro FB: Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers College BBall: UNC, Liberty Pro BBall: Detroit PISTONS Baseball: Detroit Tigers, and I'll cheer for the Cubbies...not that there's been much to cheer about recently.
Honestly, I don't really care about the other sports. If there is a question, I usually go with a Michigan team. I don't get into the UVA-VT thing.

Sly where was the Ranch located? The only famous NFL people in Victoria area were Dat Nguyen's father and mother in-law and he would visit alot during the offseason.
NBA--Orlando MLB--Marlins, Nationals, and Braves before the Marlins came into existence NHL--Florida NFL--Bills College--Michigan and Florida, and the occasional UCF

Bum's ranch is near Goliad.
As for Dat's family, most of them are still in Fulton or Corpus. They still have restaurants in both places. Dat's brother runs the one in Corpus that is by far the best of the bunch. I didn't know Dat's father had move dup there.
I covered Dat in high school where he played both football & basketball. In football, he was all-district as FB, LB and punter. He could've gotten scholarship on his punting skills alone.

Its his parents in law that live in the area. His family is still in the Rockport area. This is coming from a word of mouth from one of my employees so i'm not 100% positive. He also said stone cold steve austin was from Cuero. I can't imagine that guy playing football for the gobblers back in the day.

Austin was actually an El Campo Ricebird before playing I-AA football for Stephen F. Austin.
