Language? Well Im not the one who hides behind a guest name and cracks on somebody takin a proactive approach and coming up with a feasibly workable system. If anybody here disagrees with me, or wants to challenge any of the logic in this system, then can call me on it outside the confines of this board. You come across as one of those fly by night posters that jumps all over something someone says, and the second somebody calls you out, you shy away and are never heard from again. How about you man up and get an account so we can have a constructive dialogue about this outside the board. We cool? Whoa Whoa Whoa... someone needs to go to "Sense of Humor" class... I was just teasing with you. I really don't care to have an off-board discussion about the playoff system... I was just giving you a hard time because it looked like you spent an entire weekend in the basement of the science building coming up with a 500 word formula. Just trying to be funny. No hard feelings. No need to get your anonymous friends and a posse together to hunt me down. Although I get the feeling you could probably hack into my bank account using my social security number, a floppy disk and a roll of duct tape. So I better be nice... and it is for this very reason that I (just like your friend) wish to remain anonymous. Yes, we cool. Alright. Now I didn't want to come across as someone who wanted to gather an angry posse and torch your house, NOR would I ever want to hack into your bank account. The way I figure this system would be implemented, is that we revert back to the 11 game schedule, and the 16 teams would be named and seeded after teh last 1-A conference championship is decided (which I believe is traditionally the Big 12 title game), much like they go right to selection time for the NCAA tournament on the day of the ACC title game and a few others. They begin 2 weeks after the last title game (which would give any teams that are having to travel time to prepare) and would go for 4 weeks, and put the title game somewhere in early to mid-January. I personally would like it if it was the same weekend as the Super Bowl, but the logistics of that could be interesting to say the least. Revenue would be killer, but I don't know if anyone would want to sacrifice THAT much extra time. Im sure you could come up with some gloriously constructive ideas for this too

Good to know medic... no identity theft to worry about.
Mr Flamesfan710,
I have to admit that I have enjoyed a little bit of humor at your expense but I really don't care that much about the topic. If we get a playoff system that is great, if not, ok too. I'm not making any plans for the Heisman Bowl. I was just trying, as you would say... to bust your cajones a little.

::)If this will help calm your fears, I am the anonymous friend. By the way, the way I had it figured logistically is having the 1st round the weekend immediately following the BigXII/ACC/SEC championships, with the $.25s the next weekend and the semis the weekend after that, then waiting until the first Saturday in February for the Heisman Bowl. The immediacy of the first round would give lower seeded teams a small advantage they would desperately need by giving them an extra week of rest while denying that week to 6 very high ranked teams, while the delay between the semis and the HB would give the two teams badly-needed time to heal up after a grueling 3-week journey through a very hot place and give them time to analyze their opponents for weaknesses. Coincidentally (or not), in 710's most recent example, what would now obviously ( to all you VT/Bama fans: I feel you) be the Southern Cal-Texas Heisman Bowl would be at Ford Field on 4 February 2006. To those of you who do not realize the signifigance of that, allow me to remind you that Super Bowl XL is at Ford Field on 5 February 2006. Football Heaven, courtesy of 710 and yours truly. ;D NOW HOW 'BOUT THAT?!?

In fact here is how things currently look if the Run to the Heisman Bowl started this weekend:
ACC Champion: Florida State Big 12 champion: Texas Big East Champion: West Virginia Big Ten Champion: Penn State Conference USA Champion: UTEP MAC Champion: Toledo Mountain West Champion: TCU Pac-10 Champion: USC (and #1 Seed overall) SEC Champion: Alabama (I could put Georgia here just as easily though) Sun Belt Champion: Louisiana Monroe WAC Champion: Fresno State At-Large: Notre Dame, Miami, Georgia, UCLA, Iowa

there were actually several upsets, TX Tech gets beat by OK State (figure THAT one out), UVa w/ big win over GA Tech, and it was a good day to be a citizen of little 'ol Iowa: Iowa State trounces #22 Colorado, and the Hawkeyes smack down #19 Wisconsin in THEIR house, ruining Barry Alvarez's swan song.

Tx Tech wasn't even in to begin with...they got exposed by Texas, Georgia is still in but their seed dropped because of the loss to Auburn, just not that much due to the quality of the game, and Iowa gets in on at at-large with their win over Wisconsin, and Colorado also gets dropped from the top 16. Seedings updated accordingly

Fixed that...I put a lot in HOW a team loses, as well as the margin. that's why Georgia did not change position at all even though they lost to Auburn, But Colorado and Florida State dropped out entirely, and UCLA dropped a couple spots (although if they do not play well next week I may drop them in favor of Oregon)

I fixed it to basically say that if UCLA does not play well next week, the Ducks will be in as an at-large and the Bruins can hope they get into one of the remaining bowl games

thanks for posting this here- I've been roaming around for a half hour trying to decide where to add it- WHAT A CRAZY DAY! not just D1AA, but the bigs too!
Auburn over 'Bama wasn't a HUGE shock, but Miami losing at home to the Rambling Wreck? I'd like to point out my Nitney Lions are now #3 and have an outside shot at the title game if Fresno State pulls something crazy outta their hindquarters. Love to see JoePa take on SLYs steers.

LSU and Notre Dame looked sharp today but both played sub-par competition (Ole Miss is, well- Ole Miss, and Syracuse is having a rough year)

You are more than welcome PA...Right now with my system, they would probably meet on the same side of the draw. although if USC loses, Texas becomes my new #1 seed and then it is possible they meet in the "Heisman Bowl" Im gonna see if I can simulate this somehow or another once I get back from break

Fresno State with an impressive performance in losing to USC...Toledo Loses, UTEP Loses...Miami Loses...what a weekend!

#1: USC #2: Texas #3:Penn State #4: Notre Dame #5:LSU #6:Virginia Tech #7: Georgia #8: Miami (FL) #9: West Virginia #10:TCU #11: Oregon #12: Iowa #13:Fresno State #14: Tulsa #15: Northern Illinois #16: Lousiana-Monroe

I hate to say this- but USC has shown real weakness this year- and I think Texas will roll them w/ little trouble. In fact- it could be ugly. Anybody have a side by side of their SOS readily available?
They almost mirrored CCU's season- too many close or pull-out wins over inferior teams. Then again, maybe its tougher- seeing as you get everybody's "A-game". Guess thats why there's never been a 3-peat nat'l champ in FB.

Also true...hopefully I will get a chance to get together with a firend or two and simulate my little playoff system. In fact, here is how it would look if the "playoffs" started this weekend:
Bracket 1 #1: USC #16: Lousiana-Monroe
#5:LSU #12: Iowa
Bracket 2 #2: Texas #15: Northern Illinois
#6:Virginia Tech #11: Oregon
Bracket 3 #3:Penn State #14: Tulsa
#8: Miami (FL) #9: West Virginia
Bracket 4 #4: Notre Dame #13:Fresno State
#7: Georgia #10:TCU
Imagine the potential matchups that could breed...
