The quarterback Farrel couldn't even handle the pressure that Concord was throwing at them basically for the entire game. Our offensive line stunk like crap and it was just plain pathetic to look at tonight. The O-line didn't do a good job protecting the quarterback all night. I was at the game. Well this was embarrasing to look at most of the night. They (Concord) were ready to play and we weren't. They did have some huge guys on their O-line. They were basically moving bodies of our defensive line for most of the game. Eventually their O-line wore down late in the game. Concord didn't have much depth in their O-line. Thankfully we won this game. We will get crushed next week at UCONN with this play tonight. Either way we are going to lose next week anyway. Critic, How was the crowd at the game? First opener I have missed in many, many years. Sounds like I didn't miss much.

Congrats to the football team. Any win is a good win - start praying for the UCONN game.

There were a ton of people at the game. I'd say around 11,000. I'm glad we at least pulled it out. Actually, I think Brock did a great job at QB. He wasn't getting much help from the line, and he still made some big throws (1st touchdown was a screen pass he threw off his back foot with people on him...and he made some more nice passes to Williams...and if I'm correct...NO INTERCEPTIONS...something we've had a lot of in the past).
To many slow developing running plays, we really need a fullback in there... Our defence line couldn't stop the run very well. Hopefully improvement will come.
I'm not worried about being crushed by UConn. That would happen regardless. But we need to get better so Youngstown St. doesn't humiliate us.

The total was actually 8,000 something I think. I heard it announced but I can't remember anything but the 8. Seemed like more to me too. The crowd was by far the largest I've seen in the 5 years I've been regularly going to games. Hopefully we can continue to win so people keep coming. (We have fickle fan disease)
I was also a little disappointed with the performance tonight. I think some of the freshmen looked decent (the ones that played), although I didn't realize that Terrell went in. I felt like Brock was lacking tonight, and our offense was period--although Lauren Williams DID apparently learn how to hold the ball over the summer! Very happy to see him playing at his talent level. As for the O-line, I think until LU recruits for their line, they're not going to have the results that they want from them. Last year, at the end of the season-they had 6 linemen that could play in games AND practices-6, PERIOD. Clearly, some recruiting needed to be done-but was that reflected in our line this season? NO-they just moved some people around really. They lost Shawn Boyle, Thomas Smith, and Matt Beard and it shows. (if i'm forgetting someone, sorry) I was impressed with the punting game-Crouch is always good, and Beasley's one punt was about 50 yds.
With UConn, it will be a victory in my eyes if we can be competitive. I just hate to see them get stomped the 2nd week of the season--it's not a big encouragement. Let's hope that some of the kinks get worked out in practice this week and that next week is a surprise for everyone!
Go Flames!!!

The crowd was not as good as I would have hoped. I think the attendance was about 8300 people and the majority of those were the students.

Yeah-and its hard to get us students fired up when we're losing...the key to getting the crowd into the game is to strike first, and get a lead, and play well. If our team can do that at home, then the crowd will get behind them and push them onto victory...otherwise, when we're down, none of us really feel like being there...like I said, I'm amazed (and thankful) that I stayed beyond the halftime show.

I got my first close up view of the football Flames on the sideline and it was tough to watch at times. I thought our O line was getting pushed around and that Concord was physically much stronger than I thought they would be. I thought the D front 4 did a good job for the most part considering they were all making their 1st start together I believe. If Brock Farrell gets time, I think the passing game can be effective. Not saying its going to be prolific but steady is a reasonable expectation. Give Concord credit, they played well. Maybe when we play our Giant next week that we can have a similar competitive showing.
