well with 7 days till the opener vs. concord i think it's time for everyone to make predictions on how our boys will finish this year. i am saying 8-3, with losses to UConn, W&M, and Gardner-Webb. we will finish 3-1 in league play and a three way tie for 1st with Coastal and Gardner-Webb. the rest of our OOC games are games we should win with those other teams being down. this may sound a bit crazy to some, but it is certainly a possibility. GO FLAMES!

I think we can beat GW so I will go one better and say 9-2 with losses to UConn and WM and consideration for an at large playoff berth

OK I'll take a swing:
Concord - W 1-0 (0-0) UConn - L 1-1 (0-0) YSU - W 2-1 (0-0) This one has me VERY nervous though W&M - L 2-2 (0-0) VMI - W 3-2 (1-0) UTC - L 3-3 (1-0) Towson - W 4-3 (1-0) CCU - W 5-3 (2-0) GWU - W 6-3 (3-0) CSU - W 7-3 (4-0) NSU - W 8-3 (4-0)
BSC Champs. However we could very well end up 4-7.

5-6, losing to: UConn, W&M, Youngstown, GWU, CCU, and either Towson or Tenn-Chatty. Yes, I know, I'm extremely optimistic...but after last year and with the loss of our 3 great running backs I just don't have the feeling in my gut like I did when we drew Penn St. and then DePaul in women's bball.

I don't see us losing to Chatty like H-burg. But I don't see us going 9-2 either. I think 8-3 is within our grasp with the obvious losses to U-Conn and Bill & Mary along with a disappointing loss to G-W.
I hope I am dead wrong and we make a big run this fall.

Sly:
I figure we might lose one we should have won. The reason I picked UTC was because they dominated us last year. 22 first downs to 14. We had 294 yards of total offense and they had 519. UTC had 4 tunrovers and a blocked extra point go back for 2 points and the game winner. UTC stunk on special teams and we got 2 punt returns for TD's. We also picked up a fumble and took it to the house.
What are the chances we'll score 23 points off of UTC mistakes? I hope I'm wrong.
UTC also returns 9 starters on offense.

I think we will go 4-7. This is a young team and we lost a good bit. I think we will beat Concord, CSU, VMI, and CCU maybe.(revenge against CCU) Maybe we will beat Norfolk State. We will lose all of our big games against UCONN, Youngstown State, Gardner-Webb, UTC, and W-M. The last few years we have choked in the big games. So it will happen again this year. Hopefully they will prove me wrong. Somehow we choked so many times against UTC this past year and won the game.

I will say 8-3. We will definately lose to UConn and probably W & M. The rest should be wins but we will lose another one we should win. No excuse for losing any BSC games even Gardner Webb on the road. No excuse at all! The schedule as far as home/away seems to be in our favor.

My guess is 7-4 or at best, 8-3. Winning against the better teams will be a function of the D stepping up BIG TIME (given their current state of injuries) and BALL CONTROL- clock management, RUSHING RUSHING and MORE RUSHING. We evidently have 3 solid backs- give'em the ball and chew up the clock, your opponent has less of a change when they aren't running the O. If we can keep the ball 50-60 % of the time, we have a shot at the W/M and G/Ws. CCU? we just have to bear down and grind it out against what should be a quality opponent again this year. Ya HAVE to start beating good teams consistently at SOME point.

Maybe in addition to coming down there and assuming on campus Chief Paramedic duties I should assist Karcher and co. After reading my posts- I obviously know everything. Yeah- me, SLY and H'burg should come down there and teach these young pups something.
BTW:Do they have Wawa's down there?

PAMed-Sheetz is FAR better than Wawa...
Anyway, I think we've all agreed UConn and W&M are definite losses, and the guaranteed wins are VMI, CSU, Concord, and Norfolk St...leaving UTC, Towson, Chatty, GWU, CCU, and Youngstown up in the air...and I think after Youngstown beat us last year with the senior class we had, that should be a loss as well.

and I think after Youngstown beat us last year with the senior class we had, that should be a loss as well. 1. don't sell my man Greiser and his backfield co-horts short. 2. whats a SHEETZ? sounds like some kinda white power thing, it is the south ya know.

I stopped at a Sheetz in Hershey last spring to fill up. So I KNOW you are familiar with the chain, PAmedic. I'm still trying to figure out if the name of your chain sounds like Hellen Keller's water or a baby crying.
Back to the task at hand of predictions, I'm not ready to dismiss the possibility of a major upset this fall in Williamsburg. I'm just saying that's a game I don't see us likely winning. But the Tribe aren't invincible.
I see your logic, H-burg. But we will have Chatty at home this fall. Hopefully that will be the difference.

Just an FYI: Norfolk State is atrocious. I mean, they lost to Savannah State at home last year. They're 2-19 in the last two years.

We beat Norfolk State 69-21 last year. I foresee a similar score this season. Im just hoping we don't have to have another game against VMI like we did 2 years ago

Honestly have NEVER heard of a Sheetz, def NOT in the Philly area. Of course I never get out west to the Hershey area; they may well have them out there. Some kinda farm country thing.

I saw them in Eastern PA and Delaware when I was over there for my Grandfather's wedding last spring. But I've expended more thought & energy on the chain of gas stations than I ever care to expend again. Frankly, I've always been a Flying J man myself.

An outsider's prediction:
Liberty - 7-4, 3-1 (losses to UConn, Bill & Mary, Youngstown, & Gardner-Webb)
The rest of the league:
Coastal - 7-4, 3-1 Gardner-Webb - 7-4, 3-1 VMI - 3-8, 1-3 CSU - 6-5, 0-4

I thought nobody at Winthrop cared about I-AA football. Otherwise, I could see that being fairly on target. Although I don't if I have all the faith in Chuck South that you possess.

Hey, CSU is my adopted big south football squad (they need someone to follow them, and besides, the campus is 10 minutes from my house), so maybe i am a bit optimistic (though I don't see them winning a league game this year). Plus their schedule isn't too tough.
And I'm no expert on I-AA football, but I do keep my eye on it.

the boys over at CCU will be quite miffed over you projecting them 7-4. They're expecting great things this year. you may well be right on though, alot of Big South Conf games could go either way and the top 3 schools could all end up as you suggest, or somebody run the table. Can't wait to see!

With teams like James Madison, App State, and SC State on their schedule, I think Coastal should be thrilled if they find a way to win more than 7 games this year.

Some of the more rabid fans down there have their hearts set on at LEAST 10-1 , if not 11-0. Don't know how realistic that is, but hey- they're stoked.

I have never seen anyone seriously think we'll go 10-1 or better. Sure we want to go undefeated, who doesn't? But with the teams on our schedule I think 7-4 or 8-3 are positive yet reasonable expectations and from what I've seen many people have echoed that. We could also go 4-7 or worse, so who knows? All I know is i can't wait to get this season started.

Just so it's on the record, I say we're going 7-4 on the season - with losses to UConn, Y'Town State, Bill & Mary, and Coastal (who just beat JMU, the nat'l champion last year). And we'll place second in the Big South.
Liberty Flames football. It's mediocr-iffic.

Just out of curiousity, do you guys think it's pathetic that Liberty's media guide's slogan is "building on a strong foundation" -- or just laughable? Metaphorically speaking, it's inaccurate -- I'd hardly call one winning season since 1998 a "strong foundation" -- and literally its wrong (from what I've heard, because the ground that they're building the fieldhouse on isn't that stable, either.

Sorry for the 2 week absence. Things have been crazy. As for the prediction, I have said this all along, if we are 2-2 by the end of next weekend we will finish 8-3 if not we will finish 7-4. YSU should be a great test at home, I have been doing my research for the pregame show and this should be one that is close going into 4th. Hope you guys are all out there. No doubt that this is a must win game. LU 24- YSU - 21. Now just givemethemic

I hope that you are right about your prediction. It would be great to finally get a win against a quality 1AA opponent for a change. LU hasn't done that since the Appy State win about 8 years ago. Personally I don't think that Karcher or the team has the ability to shake off that humiliating defeat from last week but we will all see what kind of character they really have right now. The next 2 weeks will make or break our season as I see it. We must at least get a split or at least be competitive but it would be nice to win at home. Not much else to look forward to for the rest of the season with the exception of Coastal which is really coming as of late.
