Wow! Things do get heated on the firehouse. Usually there is two sides to every issue and somewhere in the middle is the truth. I thought you be interested on my perspective to date. It is imperative in our system that players can defend penetration, contest shots and check out on the defensive end. There is much work to still be done in these areas. I do feel we have an improved collective understanding on both ends of the floor. The inexperience becomes so apparent in tough times but those lead to growth. Buffalo is a versatile and talented team. I saw real progress on the defensive end and out rebounded them +10 too many turnovers. Lipscomb's front line would be 1 or 2 in the Big South and they abused us on the glass. They have a great shot to win their league. We shot 54% in the first half got the ball inside that was good to establish but our defense and rebounding was poor. I am surprised by the lacking performance of three of our guys and we need to find the keys to help them improve. So as we prepare for San Juan this week practice is a needed blood bath on achieving the toughness required to compete successfully. I am responsible. We are where we are with this young team due to a variety of issues. I must get the most out this team and add some talent to the roster. It will happen. One mid year transfer is commited who will add ability to our post play and we are not done yet. Tyler Baker has ankle surgery on Dec. 19th. With Armon Jones that is three 6'8" to 6'9" potential impacts. It is apparent that a computer gives everyone the capability to be an expert. Gary Williams was 4-14 in year four at Maryland in the ACC and I do believe he went on to achieve success. By the grace of God and determination we will perservere through this season and see where competitively this team can climb too. Any of you are free to come and get a first hand experience of what is going on. I know it would change the open minded to how political some are. I haven't been arrested nor did I run Jeff Meyer or David Dees out of town. Now sometimes it is important to send a message that being involved as a player or staff member is not a birthright or welfare. We are here to build a program. So change can lead to many verbal positionings but people are rarely removed if it isn't the best interest of the organization. Feel free to contact me directly I think many would benefit by getting to personally know the staff....no pretense or false fronts experienced coaches united to get the job done. Division I athletics are very demanding and some choose not to pay the price when they figure it out. My goals and belief in the ability to reach those goals are as strong as ever. Easy at Liberty..no...doable...yes! So I will continue to give the young men in our program the best I can to help them become champions. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and that many of us can find the common cause to keep moving onward and upward. The Big South is currently 6-1 against the Southern Conference and 2-1 against the Atlantic Sun.

Thanks for staying up late and updating us Coach- always good to hear from you. Hope the Baker surgery goes well- what is the prognosis for the rest of his season? Good to hear your're stepping up the motivation of your guys- may well be just what they need. We're all looking forward to the next half of the season and seeing our team in conf competition. (and aren't those RPI rankings hysterical?) Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Thank you Coach. I am behind you 100% no matter what our final record is this year. Although, I believe we can make a run in the Big South. I was wondering what you thought about Anthony Smith? I think he needs to be more aggressive in looking for shots to help Larry carry the load. Anyways, you know the team best. Go Flames! Good luck in San Juan and stay safe!

Thanks for stopping by again, Coach.
This mid-year guy ... has he enrolled in school for the spring semester? How much eligibility will he have left? I assume he'll be available the remainder of this season and next.
As for Puerto Rico, don't drink the water. ;D
Seriously, I'm looking forward to you guys jheading down to McNeese. I plan on being there with my family in tow. I'm guessing some of the Texans on the team will have their families there as well.

jcmanson-Anthony is making big strides and has been a real encouragement on the defensive end. He needs to have some break throughs to establish confidence as a consistent scorer. I am going to call his number in San Juan and challenge him with set plays. At 6'4" 210lbs he will be a contributor.... with confidence and a tighter approach to attacking the seams-special. Sly-The transfer has enrolled in our business program and will be in practice in January. Then starting next fall have two years of eligibility. We are not going to play him this year. Please email me your contact information so we can get together. No hotel rooms in Lake Charles with the hurricane so we are staying in Beaumont on the 28th. I'd like for you to come and meet our staff and team. Tickets to the McNeese game are on the way...let me know your needs. Our program is on board w/the firehouse family.

Coach Dunton: Your time is coming. I meet your brother in the Airport in Charlotte once a couple of years ago and he was real excited about you taking over the Basketball team at LU. I have also meet a couple of your Players commuting from Charlotte to Lynchburg on US Air when I was coaching the Lacrosse Team and everyone who knows you has nothing but great things to say about you. I meet you briefly at a Winthrop game last year in Rock Hill where I live. Right now LU is a young program but in a year or two you Guys will be the very best in the Big South. Building College Teams as I'm sure you know takes time and hard work and sometimes fans have no idea what goes into working with young Men between ages 18-22. As an Alumni I'm excited about what you bring to Liberty basketball. I know you will do us proud. I wish you the best. Thelaxman www.geocities.com/libertylacrosse/coach/coach.htm

I've said this before- I've met Coach D exactly one time, he is very earnest, very determined, and very "up" on the potential of this team. He has a plan and knows how he wants to implement it.
I waiting as patiently as possible and looking forward to the conf schedule just as everyone else is on here.

No wins vs. D1 opponents in year #4 of RD's 5-year "top 50" plan. The Walk just does NOT match the talk. NEVER has with RD. Down to #329 (out of 334)as of today. Sad state of affairs for a once Winning and very respected college basketball program under J Meyer.

Dude, Coach Meyer has been gone now for like 7 years. Its time to turn the page. As for our ranking, that can turn in an instance. We just need to worry about being ready for league play.

Yeh, Meyer brought us tons of titles...there has to be a connection with someone bringin up a coach from 7 years ago that didnt even win the big south but once Sly we gotta do something about the guest's posting without reg. we need to make it members only and get these guys to reg. or just not post

I will continue to repeat myself everytime yall are going to say something about coach D....in three years he's finished the reg. season 2nd 1st 2nd....think about that before you post something about how much he sucks as a coach, we're not the Yankees here and fire people for 2nd place finish's he's allowed to rebuild, and this is it...but we'll be fine when it's all said and done

Sad state of affairs for a once Winning and very respected college basketball program under J Meyer. You may not agree with him, but what did this guy say that was so bad that people are calling to silence him. I thought we were living in a free society. If people are getting jumped on for their opinions then something is wrong and maybe this isn't the place for me either. I understand if he threw some wild accusation out there that was unfounded, then that would be one thing, but these are opinions. Whether you agree or not, lets not turn into communists. There may be a time when your opinion draws controversy but you should be allowed to have it. "Sly we gotta do something about the guest's posting without reg. we need to make it members only and get these guys to reg. or just not post" Who are you? If this is the way the board is set up then so be it. He did nothing wrong. Fight your battles with facts and counterpoints, not with childish cries to have the person "quited." Is this middle school? Would there be a difference in his opinion if he was registered? Maybe he is like me, testing the place out. Either way, let's grow up and realize that good people can disagree on points, especially in sports. You probably better not go to a message board at another school... you might get your feelings hurt. This was mild compared to what was said about Ron Zook and others. If you are worried about Randy, I'm sure he can take it. Coaches are tough, they hear this type of thing all the time. I'm positive that Coach Dunton would not be asking that someone shut the naysayers up. I also guarantee you that if you require people to sign up, there will be people who register and still disagree with you sometimes. Some people need to get out of the bubble and join the intercourse of ideas that most of us enjoy out here in the real world.

What is so hard or scary about registering?
The problem we have with formerflame is there is another poster called formerplayer or something like that...if they would all register, at least we would know who were talking to...it seems like negative people want to hide their identity and post as multiple people. I don't mind having guests on right now...they can say what they want, but I understand the movement for registering, so at least we can identify people (boy, who would have thought that would've been a problem on this board 2 years ago!)

My problem is the fact that he was negative and was called out... if he had been positive there would have been nobody crying for his silence. I have read enough on here to see this pattern.

It's nothing to do with you or anyone else having a different opinion...heck i only agree with 1% of what PAmedic has to say, but it's not about that, for all we know it's the same person time after time and doing 100 different names to seem like it's 100 people...not to mention, if someone has a problem or knows what i'm saying is a lie then can PM me and we'll discuss it rather than just sign off hide and get on as a different name
and as far as you saying that you know people will Reg. and still disagree.....GOOD! I dont want people agreeing with me all the time, if that was the case i'd talk to a mirror

Back from San Juan...the team is getting closer to sound basketball. We will continue to make progress because the character of the guys is strong. It is no secret 10 games in that we have weaknesses. To my determined critic(s) it is never planned to go through adversity to this degree in year four but when it happens you stay on task with greater commitment to achieve your goals. Every program has its struggles... just go to a tournament where there is twelve teams and listen to the coaches. We have tremendous young men.. they made a real positive impact on the tournament committee and those around the trip. On Sunday we traveled to Ponce on the other side of the island visiting a large church from which 10 students attend Liberty. Evan and Larry shared with the congregation through an interpretor and we were well received. That was a four hour bus trip and the guys were tremendous. It is impacting for them to see a thriving church in another culture. All that is great but we must still win. I will never sell short the necessity of winning. We are not where we want to be but closer than some would recognize. It is rebuilding because of the inability to establish an inside presence and inconsistent pt guard play. The injuries to Baker, Eck and Holland are factors. We are rebounding better, shooting the ball good, but must improve with ball possession and free throw ratio in conference. It comes down to developing the players and recruiting guys who can make it at Liberty. So it is up to all of us to understand the program and build it as we head to 2006. Please get to know this staff and the process. It will energize you to know how the next era of LU basketball will unfold as we stay the course. Substance is substance and bull is bull so hang tough while the sea is turblent & enjoy your Christmas. Our top eight consist of 2 juniors, 4 sophs and 2 freshmen. Todd Wetmore said we were the fifth youngest team in division I, while we may not be a dominate team in year four we will continue to build not quit, energize not demoralize and find the very best in this team. I will share with you at a later date some recruiting info. May God bless you and your families with some special memories this Christmas. My prayers are that all of us will be better prepared to live out the excitng purpose God has for our lives. Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks for sharing the trip to Ponce with us. Sometimes we get caught up in breaking down statistics and forget some of the things the team is doing away from the court.
As far as scouting reports go, I'm guessing it doesn't take long looking at the stat sheet to release where are weaknesses are right now. But I don't hink these problems are insurmountable.
Looking forward to seeing you guys in Lake Charles.

I'm real excited about the Big South schedule. We may see a real turn around with the team. After seeing Winthrop in person in the ECU game I know they will be tough. But we have been close to some upsets. Some positives may just come. On any given night anything can happen. I'm pulling for you Coach even way out here in New Mexico. Lastly, just want to say to other people posting in this thread. I knew Coach Meyer and when he was at Winthrop I coached Lacrosse at Winthrop and we talked a lot about why he left Liberty. So leave Meyer out of this conversation. I think you just need to leave Coach Dunton alone and let him do his job. In time we will be there in the promise land in Basketball. Building Champions takes time and hard work. Be patient. Thelaxman www.geocities.com/libertylacrosse/coach/coach.htm
