I'm planning on having the entire den of Sly Foxes at this Thursday's game in Lake Charles. Check out this humorous story about McNeese State from the other day: McNeese State's Aldryan Wardell, 30, left, and University of Louisiana's Ross Mouton battle for the ball Thursday.www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051223/NEWS01/512230328/1002Hopefully we remember to pack our gear for the trip. ;D

It's back up to 16 points with 8:25 left to go in the game. The layoff did the Flames no good.

Liberty falls 85-72. It's not good when the Flames give up that many points.

Bad night for the Big South. Winthrop had one in the books at Auburn up 13 in the second half and let it slip away. Lost by 2. Torrell had a big night as well as Gaynor but Bradshaw never stepped up. We can't seem to get a game where everyone plays well. Two losses to SEC teams by under 3. Should have capitalized.

That's what kills me about Winthrop, they're good enough to hang with these guys but they just can't close the deal. This is really killing your case for a 14 seed as I don't think the comittee takes close losses into consideration.
As for LU, I don't know what to say. I can't imagine what team morale is like right now. They say the team chemistry is good this year so maybe they'll come together through this adversity. It's not looking good right now. Next up: 2 home conference games with no students. Thanks Big South. As if we didn't have enough problems.

I'm not so sure that WU's case for a 14 seed is getting killed right now...WU got a 14 seed last year without beating anyone as good as Marquette and with a couple of 'bad' losses (Coastal, Portland)...but the chances of getting anything better than a 14 have been hurt by the inability to pull one of these games out.

I don't know if it's funny or sad that a conference loss for you guys is concidered a "bad" loss.

I guess we are going to hear that the team is young, these kids need to step up, it will take a while to form team chemistry, just wait till conferece play, we lost three great players etc. etc. I think I have hit most of the excuses.
Meanwhile we are 330 of 334 in the Searigin rankings. (I know they are bogus) All is well.

Guys, I was at the game and had a great time despite being in one of my least favorite corners of the nation. Before you pound away on what went down, you need to do a couple of things. First, check the boxscore. There should be a GLARING omission from the statistics. We found out just a couple of hours before tipoff that we would be without our starting point guard. Its a matter that will hopefully be resolved shortly, but there was little time to make adjustments to a backcourt already shorthanded by injuries. Whether or not McNeese realized it or not, they played the perfect defense for our predicament to start the game. The trapped fullcourt from the opening tip. We didn't handle the press well at all and they jumped out to 12-15 point lead that we were never able to recover from. When you add in some homecooking refs that called 9 of the first 13 fouls against us (a big chunk of them charges with defenders sliding underneath us) we just got in too deep of a hole. Most of our starters had two fouls about midway through the first half. On a positive, Doug Stewart had another really solid game off the bench. Larry played every minute of the game and after being a little erratic in his shot selection in the first half, he really found a groove in the second period. There were instances where Russ showed some agreesiveness down low in the second period after appearing confused for much of the first half. He had one thundering dunk that seemed to catch everyone off guard and he played some nice post defense. Damien really had trouble at the point due to all of the traps, so it wasn't one of his better performances. Frustration can be contagious and it was catching int he first half last night. Anthony seemed a little nervous ... probably since he was playing in front of family. His Dad and Grandmother were sitting next to us. At times he was a little timid (particularly when it seemed our entire team was flustered by the press) but when he showed confidence it has you thinking "How good can this kid be?". He has the potential to put up LB-type numbers on a nightly basis once he feels more comfortable out there. BTW Anthony's dad told me that Anthony is really a Houston native who moved to the Dallas are just a couple of years ago. So you can now expect me to selling Anthony like PAmedic's fave Greiser during football season. Rell had a big contingent of family members at the game and they got to see him hustling all over the floor. He may not have had eye-popping numbers, but that was primarily because of some foul issues and when he was on the floor we seemed to operate much more efficiently. Our defense has to improve particularly in the frontcourt. McNeese had some kids hitting some tough shots int he second half that kept us from making a run to get back into the game. I was disappointed we didn't have a radio crew there. Apparently when the travel budgets for WRVL were set this game was scheduled as a day game which wouldn't havce aired due to program commitments. But since it was a night game, they should've had your truly step up in a pinch. But I don't think they wanted non-stop Firehouse plugs. ;D I'll have some pics and more insight coming up shortly.

Man that would have been nice to hear you on the radio Sly. Thanks for the input. I did notice that Risher was not on the stat sheet nor was Justin Holland and Jeremy Eck. I can't wait to talk with the players and coaches to see where they are in terms of confidence and preparation going into conference play. I am very much looking forward to Big South play beginning Tuesday vs. High Point.

good to hear Anthony Smith is coming into his own- a LOT of promise in this kid. And I like the sounds of Russell Monroe learning to be mean. Maybe I should come down and teach him the fine art of elbowing- you learn that in the cradle prior to starting any sports on the East Coast! Hey- it worked for Kobe. Oh yeah- 2 games off. whoops
