The biggest game duing my tenure in college ('95-'98) was at home against Georgia Southern in 1995. We were either 7-0 or 8-0 and thought we had a legit shot at the playoffs since we were undefeated so late in the season. In a monsoon, we lost 7-6 (our kicker missed two kicks). It was heartbreaking, and that unfortunately was the last big game while I was on campus.

I remember that game. I traveled from Delaware to Lynchburg and back again the same day to see that game in the downpour in what I thought would be the game to get us into the playoffs. It just wasn't meant to be in a defensive struggle. We seemed to outplay GSU but couldn't come through in the clutch. One of our receiveres dropped a sure touchdown pass early. We had some good teams back then but couldn't win the key games to get us in the playoffs.

I believe it was 4th and 25. I guess they figured the offense wasn't moving the ball too well in the second half and maybe they had time to get the ball back for another chance. It seemed like the wrong call at the time. Sam had a tough time defending that one.

Also I saw some very poorly designed screen passes late in the game (Chiles to Morris). Where the heck were the blockers at.

Just bumping this back up to the top. Its almost become a game of watching to see how long it will take to release of games that begin in just 5 months.
Perhaps there's been a hiccup or two with schools wanting to make late changes. Otherwise, let's get a tentative schedule up on the website so we can try and make some plans.

Who is Concord? I like the UCONN and Y-State games. All in all - looks like a 6-7 win season.

Concord is division 2 in the West Virginia conference. We have played them in the past. I think that it is a fairly decent schedule except for the Big South slugs but right now that is what we have to deal with.

that doesn't actually look TOO bad, considering what we have to work with. Room for improvement from the new AD! Which would be the homecoming week?

I like the schedule. Nice mix of opponents. I hope they'll get the schedule out on the web site and finalized soon. Waiting until the last minute like they did last year looks "fly by night". Get the news out regarding the schedule and then start marketing season ticket packages like going out of style.

We should get 6 wins in football. Maybe 7. The schedule is a little odd in that we spend the whole month October at home. Right off the top of my head here's what I see:
Concord - Win at home 1-0
UConn - Loss. UConn has some holes to fill but too much overall talent. 1-1
YSU - Loss. I think YSU struggled a bit last year and they certainly aren't what they were under Tressel. 1-2
W&M - Loss. Road game, good team with a new QB. 1-3
VMI - Win. The beat goes on. 2-3
UTC - Win. Giving us the edge becaue we're home. Wild one in Chatanoodle last year. 3-3
Towson - Win. Don't know much about this team. I believe they have been up and down. Mostly down. 4-3
CCU - Loss. I want to give us the edge but based off last years game they have more talent. 4-4
GWU - Loss. Road game and with the exception of last year they have had our number. 4-5
CSU - Win. As the sun sets in the west so shall CSU stink in football. 5-5
NSU - Win. Behold the Green and Gold falls at home and Coach K locks up his 3rd straight 6 win season. 6-5

Breaking it down, I could see a few of the games going the other way. But I also see a 6-7 win season in store. That is IF we find fill our gaping offensive holes.

Don't have the official schedule in front of me right now, but it was released today. The game against Coastal this year will be a Thursday night game. Apparently the conference is trying to get some type of TV coverage for the game. No details on what that will be, but I like the idea of a Thursday night game....something different for the Big South.

this is fun reading: (posted on www.concordmountainlions.com/page.cfm?sport=102&show=9306) Football CU announces change to 2005 football schedule Athens, WVa. - Head football coach and Athletic Director Greg Quick announced this week that there is a change in the 2005 football schedule that will bring the Mountain Lions' Sept. 3, game a little closer to home.
Concord recently found a hole in their football schedule when Coastal Carolina University had to cancel the Sept. 3 meeting between the Mountain Lions and Chanticleers due to a scheduling conflict. However, the hole was "Qucik"-ly replaced with a date at Liberty University to take on the Flames in Lynchburg, Va., on Sept. 3. The trip to Liberty is much shorter than the previous trip to the Myrtle Beach area, so coach Quick expects a bigger turnout of Maroon and White.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to play a quality IAA opponent in our region," said Quick. "This game will afford students, alumni, family, and friends an opportunity to see the Mountain Lions tested by a team on the rise in the Big South conference. I anticipate a large "roarin' pride" of loyal Concord University supporters to be in attendance."
Concord University will travel to Liberty University to play on Sept. 3, 2005, in Lynchburg at 7:00pm.

A little off the topic, but happened to drive by the site for the new football operations center the other day and noticed nothing is being built. I heard it was supposed to be completed in time for the 05 season. Anyone have any updates on where the project stands?

In the past - campus projects seem to spring up overnight. It wouldnt suprise me to see something spring up quickly - or drag out over 5 years.....
Overall - I see LU with 5-7 wins. Coack K will live in the mediocre world again this year hovering at .500

Seriously, Campus East seems like it was just there suddenly one day. And the 3 stories on Demoss were quick too. It took them like a year to get the original building all ready for it and then like 3 months later, aka summer break, Demoss has 4 floors.

Yes-and Campus East is falling down, seriously. My dorm (300-5) shakes some and there are already cracks in the wall, and last year in 38 (now the girls dorm 300-16) there were MAJOR cracks in the wall, not to mention all the pains that come with the settling of the foundation like doors not closing and opening properly.
The top 2 floors of DeMoss are still empty...its doubtful they'll ever be finished.
As for the football center, I doubt it'll be ready in time. By this time last year, all 13 of the Campus East dorms they were working on had been built (minus the brickwork).

For the old hags on the board, where is East Campus (besides the obvious directional moniker).

thanks SLY- I was gonna ask the same thing, as in "what the heck are you guys talking about?"
East campus in our day was a ditch along a highway.
and a mountain.
*EDIT* I don't even comprehend the numbering system they're referring to.
Another thing that blows my mind- someone indicated Davids Place wasn't used much anymore? Geez, that was a HUGE deal in my last year down there- brand new and always PACKED- you couldn't even get in sometimes.
I KNOW, WAY OFF TOPIC- SORRY!

Campus East is located just over highway 460. And there is now a tunnel under the highway that connects the dorms over there to the main campus (comes out righ accross from the Vines). Campus North is the old Ericson/GE building complex thing.

That's what I assumed based on the direction. I remember we used to run on that dirt road on the other side of 460 in PE class.

As far as the operations center is concerned maybe they are waiting for the weather to clear a bit. It has been a very cold wet spring so far. Maybe I am a little over optimistic hear but I can see us having a 8-9 win season. We will definately lose to UConn and probably to William and Mary and I am sure we will lose to a team we are not supposed to lose to. The schedule is not that tough really. Our season depends on a number of factors such as the quality of the JUCO and transfere players coming in, QB play (Ferrel or Johnson), and improvements in the passing game and overall defense. If we could balance things out and if the young players develope it could possibly be a breakout season. As far as the JUCO's we recruited this year does anyone out there know how good these guys are.

Yes-I should also mention that East Campus is only East Campus in name only-we're really South Campus (at least thats what they said in Christmas Convo)...as to the numbering system, last year when there were only 6 dorms on East Campus (and then we weren't East Campus but rather just "the new dorms") the numbers posted read 300-14, 300-15, etc. etc. etc.-but officially they were 35, 36, 37, 38...then they buit 13 more dorms and started using the numbers on the building this year (and uh, 300-1-300-13 were built AFTER 300-14-300-19).
Ok-back on topic-yes, we'll definitely lose to UConn, W&M and prolly Gardner-Webb and maybe CCU...but I can see us having a 6-8 win season, barring any major injuries this year.

If by some miracle of God we upset UConn, does that automatically get us into the playoffs?
