going by the box scores, we played them tighter in the last 2 games than the first one.

I'm guessing the chance to play in the Big XII just a few hours from home had something to do with the decision. Even if it is in Lawrence. Ugh.

We're seeded 4th in the tourney...GO FLAMES. On a side note, could the Big South possibly send 3 teams to post-season play this year? Coastal is a lock I'm sure, and Winthrop has a strong case, so if a third team (say us or Birmingham-Southern) wins the tourney what is the possibility of 3 teams from the league going to regionals?

3 teams could definitely happen if BSC or LU end up winning the conference tourney. As you said, Coastal is a lock, and Winthrop is probably in, though they would help themselves out by winning at least a couple of games this week (and a win over Coastal wouldn't hurt)...

Great win over BS today. I listened to it over the internet. Final 8-7. Ninth inning HR to put us up. We play Wintrop tomorrow. Good luck guys!

You guys not baseball fans? WU vs. LU today. WU locked up a bid last night with the 40th win, so if LU (or someone besides CCU or WU) takes the tourney, the BSC would get three teams in.

Let's just say we are hesitant to get overly excited about our chances in the tourney until we reach to the title game. We've had our hopes dashed far too often.
But if we take care of you guys today, then we might start getting more fired up about our chances.
Forgive my ignorance, but how many times has a Big South school won a regional game? And I certainly assume we've not had anyone make it to a Super-Regional. But maybe I'm wrong.
I love the atmosphere at NCAAs from the Regionals level all the way to Omaha. Although I admit that two weeks at the CWS can burn out even the most diehard of fans. I speak from personal experience.

We appreciate it, '89. Anything can happen in a tourney. You just a need a few good breaks.

Uh, what happened? We were leading 2-1 heading to the bottom of the 4th before Winthrop's offense kicked in. But for some reason, the game was over after five innings according to stat-tracker with us down 6-2. Huh?

I noticed that too, but checked back and the game over thing was still on there though the live stats were still going. Final was 7-2 WU.

I think they play tomorrow @ 11am against Radford. Once website predicted both Coastal and Winthrop being two seeds. The big south was also ranked 11th overall conf. in baseball

Yeah, that was bizarre with gametracker. I use it all the itme covering games down here in Houston and I've never seen it go haywire like that.
As for eliminating Radford this morning, the sooner the better. If they are allegedly our biggest rival, then its time to end their season in a hurry.

Thanks, 89. We seem to thrive playing in the losers bracket. Whether it is Coastal or Winthrop, we will have our hands full. But when you get this deep into a tourney, ANYTHING can happen. Good luck tonight.

LU lost 2-1 , CCU scored in 9th w/ 2 outs. What a great year they had.

At least we gave those Coastal boys a real scare. Coach Royer and the team should be very proud of their effort in this tourney.

With Coastal getting a #1 seed and Winthrop collecting a #2 seed, the Big South is finally getting some respect in a sport. This can only be good for our program should we pick up just a couple more wins next year and get in the NCAA tournament.
Congrats to any of our Coastal & Winthrop fans who might be stopping by our board.

To be honest, respect in baseball has rarely been a problem in this league in recent years. Back about 6-8 years ago, Coastal was left out of the tourney with a very strong resume, but since then, Winthrop, Elon, and Birmingham-Southern (along with now Coastal) have all earned at-large bids and no deserving teams have seemed to be left out since Coastal's snub. Also, WU has gotten a #2 seed in the past and rarely is the conference champ a #4 seed.

Its one thing to get an at large (although that is impressive by itself), but its another to get a #1 & #2 seed. Those are typically limited to the power leagues.

Baseball: Birmingham-Southern's Froehlich, Liberty's Grijalva Earn Freshmen All-American Honors bigsouthsports.com/article.asp?articleid=70706congrats to Aaron:Grijalva recently finished his first collegiate season among the Big South leaders in nine of ten offensive categories including batting average (.367), slugging percentage (.624), on base percentage (.450), runs scored (55), hits (77), doubles (13), triples (4), home runs (11), and total bases (131). In addition, he tied for second in the conference in fielding percentage (.994).
The first baseman becomes only the second Flames’ player to be selected to the team in its 15-year history. Outfielder Keith Butler was the first Liberty player to be named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team in 2000.
One of three Flames to start all 55 games this season, Grijalva led the team with 24 multiple-hit games, nine of which were three-hit games, and tied for the team lead with 11 multiple-RBI games. The first baseman also had a team-high 13-game consecutive game hit streak this season during which he hit .443 with 10 multiple-hit games.
Grijalva was named Big South Player of the Week on April 11 and received national recognition by being named to the College Baseball Foundation Weekly Honor Roll for April 12 - after posting a .667 batting average with three doubles, a home run and eight runs scored in four games including games against Winthrop and Virginia the previous week. He finished the week with a 1.167 slugging percentage, .688 on-base percentage and three multiple-hit games.
Liberty finished the season at 36-19, posting the program’s first 30-win season since 2002 and the 11th in the 29-year history of the program. In addition, the team’s 36 wins tie the 2000 Liberty team for the most victories by a Flames’ team in competition at the NCAA Division I level.

By the way, our Baptist brothers at Baylor are having quite a year. After winning the womens hoops national championship, today they earned their first trip to the College World Series (they are perennial chokers in the postseason who finally have lived up to their potential).

Sly Fox, I thought you called Baylor University our Baptist Cousins. They are doing well. Would it be good if they won the title this year in Baseball. Then the fans and people of Waco would be going nuts like they did when the Women's Basketball team won it all.

Our relationship with them depends on how embarassing they are as far as I am concerned (see PAmedic's reply). If you don't have a rooting interest in Omaha, I suppose they would be a good choice. As for me, I have too many connections with the Texas Longhorns. If the baseball team wins the national championship, the fans woudl go CRAZIER than they did with womens hoops. Down here in Texas, baseball is much bigger than womens basketball. College baseball takes a backseat only to football (so far out in front everything else is somewhat meaningless) and mens hoops.

Anybody else have the privelage of reading that article in the paper about 4 or so of the guys on the team having a chance to go in low rounds? Ya gotta love the quote from the coach saying he didn't think any of the guys really had the stuff to go in the draft this year.....sounds like some good support there....

Here's yet another way to create press for your school: NCAA bans Baylor from nonconference play msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/3713322geez, ONE little murder and a few unreported drug test-failures, and the NCAA gets all up in their face(s)
