Maybe some of you have seen her play, but I would venture to guess that if Katie raced the Katie from BSC days, WNBA Katie would win by 1/4 court. She is a lot quicker now and I'm glad for her for that.

There are only a select few true quality centers in womens college basketball. Those that have them are extremely blessed. Count LU in that department with Katie.
Bro - I've seen WNBA practices and conditioning is a major component. I'm sure she is much fleet these days.

Well for those of you who didn't see it, the ACC released the women's schedule and it seems to me that UNC wants a piece of the Big South cause they are playinig half of the league. But the UNC on Nov 21st is at 7pm. The game against Southern. Miss in the NC.ST tourney will be around 3:30. Then the next Sat at VT that game will be at 7 pm. Schedule should be out soon, basically all the hold up is a few times but the games are set in stone.

UVA would be playing us here in the Vines Center but they are scared to face their demons. UVA is nothing but a bunch of chickens. Everytime we play Virginia Tech, we do not play well at all. Mostly against them we turn the ball over. Hopefully that will change this year. We have played them close the last couple of years but haven't stuck them yet.

Speaking of Demons...I haven't seen the Demon Deacons come to us either...Anyone thinkin the majors are starting to become scared of us? I remember after we lost to South Carolina 61-69 their coach saying that she would never schedule us.

I agree with you atrain about the majors not scheduling us. I believe that this program is on the rise and we took a step in that direction with our run to the Sweet Sixteen. I believe that this team will continue to grow and get better. We can never get some big games in the Vines Center. I think that this city needs to see some high level of basketball. I hope we can schedule some big games in the Vines Center in the near future.

Initial ESPN/coaches poll still has us at #21 (Week 1), no AP pre-season poll out yet (that I could find) and we are #70 as far as RPI goes. (thanks Big South)

Is it just me, or does that ESPN/coaches poll look like the rankings at the end of the NCAA tourney?
As far as RPI, the rest of the Big South needs to step up and start playing like they've got a perrenial top-25 contender in the conference instead of rolling over and playing dead in their OOC schedules...

So you mean that the other teams in the conference needs to play much tougher teams in the top25? Other teams in the conference would have gotten laughed out of the arena if they played the schedule we have been playing the past few years. Really none of the teams in this league except us have beaten top 25 opponents in the past few years. This past year we beat several top 25 teams or 3 of them. Every team in this league has their own level and none of them are at the level we are at in my opinion.

The BSC teams in my opinion have a ways to go before they reach our level. They need to schedule big teams and be at least competitive or knock them off. We (Liberty) should not be playing down to their level by any means. We saw what happened against High Point when we did that. An embarrassing loss was the result. But we haven't done it since the loss and it carried into the NCAA's and I hope that momentum will continue throughout.

The loss to High Point was pretty humiliating and not at all expected at the time. But that loss fired everyone up and we that took out our frushtrations by wipping all the BSC teams by 40 points or more after that happened. I can't even think about playing down to such a low level as the Big South.

Of our last BSC 6 games, only 2 were less than 40 points MOV. Let's hope we don't have to have a moment like that again

Wow...we actually got a major conference school other than Tech or UVA to come here...well, ok, so maybe SMU in C-USA isn't that major, but its still a good thing to put more recognizable names in the Vines.

Just read UNC's take on their Non-conference schedule (yeah, I was bored). Here's what their coach had to say about it and us:
"In our nonconference schedule, I'm excited to play outstanding teams like Connecticut and Arizona State for the second year in a row and to continue our series with Old Dominion," Hatchell said. "We'll also play some great teams like TCU, Vanderbilt and Liberty that we haven't played in several years or are meeting for the first time. After those games, we'll face the challenge of our conference, which has become the toughest in the nation. I know we've got our work cut out for us, but I think we've got a group that's up to the challenge."

Oh and teh ESPN USA Today Coaches Poll came out today and even with their stellar run in the tournament, Liberty is not in the Top 25. If we aren't ranked in the AP...huh...no respect...

Considering everyone we lost, I'd be shocked if we received any votes. But we are now on the collective minds of voters after last season's run. So if we can show improvement, we'll have a much better chance of being voted on.

why would any major DI team come to the vines and risk an upset?. you can call UVA or tech chickens all you want, but i serioulsy doubt you will find many top DI teams that will roll into lynchburg. we are in the big south people, and despite the great run we have had and i hope we continue, we will have to continue to earn respect.

I am kinda glad we aren't in the preseason polls. Because I want to see this team go out and prove themselves. As bigsmooth said we have to earn the respect and continue to get even better which I think this team has the potential to do. If we continue to get better and I think we will, then even more teams will be scared to come to Lynchburg and play us.

We never do well win we are supposed to except womens hoops, look at football this year. We were picked second in the BSC and one magazine said that "this could be a breakout year for Karcher & LU."

I'm not calling Tech chickens (even though they are the Hokies-but no matter, I still love them in football), they played us here (and won) last year, so we're going to their place this year, and I believe we've got another series with Richmond for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 series. SMU is coming, and to get a somewhat big name like that to come here from Texas is HUGE. I am calling UVA and South Carolina chickens...South Carolina's head coach said she would never schedule us after we lost 69-61 to them in the first round in Feenstra's freshman year. I personally would like to see us play some more of the "lesser" (meaning not Duke or UNC) ACC teams like Maryland/Wake Forest/NC State/Clemson/GaTech/Miami/Florida State...even if it is just a one time visit to them.
We have also received 9 votes in the ESPN top 25, and notice who is on the board: Bud Childers from Winthrop and good ole' Rick Reeves from Gardner-Webb.

I don't like the UNC game. We didn't do to well against top 5 teams last year(See Duke & LSU) and now we do not have the size or experience. One magazine had Liberty 54 in there preaseason poll, it read "LITTLE Liberty keeps getting big wins"
